Seriously, should I look elsewhere other
than Mojacar if I have a cat phobia?

Seriously , it depends in what sort of property you want to live in and how big the phobia is. It may not be quite as bad as the picture Matthew and I have painted but we do have cats here.
regards

Anne, Those feral cats and otherwise are everywhere in Mojacar Pueblo and Mojacar Playa. There are many bleeding hearts looking out for them and feeding them. These bleeding hearts do everything except clean up after them. Have a look at the facebook equivalent of this forum and you will find posts "Feed the feral cats during the lockdown" etc. Anybody can feed a cat, a two year old child could do it, but nobody cares enough to clean up the crap the cats leave. Many dog walkers fail to clean up after their dog poos on the Paséo, but nobody repeat nobody cleans up after a cat drops its load.
Several of the restaurants have cats wandering through their terrace and even indoors from time to time; too much in my opinion. If you have a cat phobia Mojacar Playa or Mojacar Pueblo is not for you (just my opinion).
Before somebody posts "Hey Matthew, you don't have to enter a restaurant where there are cats." That is correct and I don't.
Three goats escaped to the Paséo last week and there were facebook calls to put bowls of water out for them. Next the same bleeding hearts will want a Victoria Cross awarded to some feral feline.

There are feral cats everywhere Anne, but I agree there are a lot roaming in Mojacar.
Here in San Juan de los Terreros they aren’t tolerated by bar/restaurant owners quite as much but we still have people feeding them 😡.
Good luck wherever you end up living.

Hi Anne, I think you mean "lynched" and if so, get into the queue behind Truenudist, me and one other.
If you are buying or renting a property ensure it ain't ground floor.

Obligatory post from a cat lover here. I am permitted to share my abode with a 17 year old female cat, who is collared, spayed, microchipped and wears an RF tracker so I can find here whenever I want. Not difficult, she doesn’t go much further than 50 metres from our house.
I live in an Urbanización in Valle del Este, and in the entire urbanización I think there are only 5 or 6 cats. All cared for and very much pets. I haven’t seen ANY ferals around where I live.
Wherever you go, you are going to find animals - CATS - we share this planet with them and do not hold dominion over them and to think otherwise is sheer folly. However that doesn’t mean you need be inundated by little balls of fur. They DO serve a purpose in many areas, keeping rodents down, but unfortunately the toms being of true Latin blood will seek to procreate.
There are places you can go where you need not be troubled by adorable balls of purring fur, such as Valle del Este. If you really do have a serious cat phobia, then look to the maintained urbanizaciones where there is less temptation in the way of mice and other food sources for feral cats to come in.
They are not completely absent of course - find some scrubby rodent-infested land and you’ll find cats. But where I live? Not many at all.

Thank-you thud is helpful. I don’t dislike cats particularly just frightened to death of them. I will search urbanisations and the area where you are. Do you know must about Mojacar pueblo?

Not really - I live in Valle del Este and work in Vera, so don’t have a lot of call to go to Mojácar - I find it normally WAYYYYYY too crowded and insane in the summer.
Vera is a more Spanish town, some expats, but being able to speak at least some Spanish is fairly important as not much English is spoken here.
Why Mojácar out of interest?
