Where to register for the Padron in Los Gallardos?

Hi,

I think you need to get the NIE before you can sign on the Padron. Are you Resident in Spain, as some councils do not let you sign on the Padron if you are not Resident (ie permanently living in Spain)?

If you go to your local Town Hall/Ayuntamiento they should be able to tell you all about the Padron and what you need to take with you to sign on.

Applications for an NIE must be made in person at your local Police station in Spain. If your police station doesn't happen to deal with NIE's then they should be able to tell you one that does.

To register on "el empadronamiento" or more simply known as "the Padrón" take either your NIE or Passport, Escritura (Title Deeds) if you have them and a utility bill as they need to establish who you are and which property you own.

Depending on who you speak to in the Ayuntamiento in Los Gallardos depends on if they think you need to register which is strange because the more people that register the more money they get.

Anyway, if you say that you are a full time resident then they will process your application, if they think you are here only for a short period then they may say that you do not need to register.

The application is very simple and you may walk away with it if the Mayor is there to sign it. If she is not then they may ask you to go back in a day or two.

It will cost anything from 2 Euros down to nothing; again it depends who deals with you.

The validity of a Padrón is three months but you do not need to renew it every three months you just get a new one when you need it for something such as buying a car.

Try to avoid going in on a Tuesday as it is market day and is usually busier than other days.

Thought it was an NIE you needed to purchase major items such as a car, a padron is similar to having your name on the electoral role no ?.

Actually we obtained our NIE from Almeria with the assistance of our Solicitor as it can or was, maybe still is, a long drawn out process. But then when the sons obtained it they went with Juan to Baza as it was a lot easier and quicker than Almeria.

We had some problem with Padron as no Utility Bill as all Solar as of 2003 so again needed to take Solicitor as Puerto Lumbreras in 2003 was not, how shall be say, pro Brit.

Now it's 2€ and an updated.Padron.

Yes NIE for Car although for many major purchases Companies want NIE number.or Passport Number.
