Spain just  reported the number of COVID-19 cases it has  and it is now has the second largest number, just behind Italy.  I do not read much about this on the forum but please be aware that this is extremely dangerous for older people and I do know there are a lot of those in Spain.  Take recommended precautions and be safe..................................

Hello from uk, we have an apartment in Turre, and were hoping to come out for 3/4 months in april this year, but we are not aware of the numbers of covid19 sufferers in Spain. Because we drive down through France and into Spain, what is the advice the Spanish government is giving to the population?

Best wishes

Alan

Not aware of any information from the Spanish Govt yet.  We are currently in the UK and will be back in April.  I subscribe to a newsletter from Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. and follow this closely due to travel plans.  This information came yesterday.  Would definitely followed WHO recommended precautions.

life here in Mojacar is going on as usual at the moment.  Albox townhall has closed it's schools and all public places and stopped the markets but they do not have any cases of the virus there.  most of the spanish cases are in the north and Madrid.  however, today in Lidls I saw a man with over 5 lots of 24 toilet rolls in his trolley so perhaps panic is starting now!

Spanish government is encouraging self-isolation for two weeks and is pressing the message “WASH YOUR HANDS”.

Junta de Andalucia has closed schools for two weeks from 16/3 to 23/3, has closed street markets for two weeks and I believe closed public gatherings, concerts etc etc.

Thanks for that information, good to know Lidl are still in business, we have been informed tonight that the uk is in delay stage of the virus, so we will be another 4 weeks before we hit the top of the infection of the population.

You take care

Alan.

The Spanish government had advised not to travel if it can be avoided.

At the moment Andalucía is not suffering too badly but people escaping worse hit areas could bring infections with them.  in Málaga where there are more seasonal visitors and people with second homes, there are many more infections over a hundred and increasing all the time.  Lots of businesses may close and fiestas will probably cancelled, schools closed etc.  People are advised to stay in.  Museums, theatres cliosed.  In all pretty bleak.

Some of my British friends have had to put off their travel arrangements as they can't get travel insurance due to age and the (possible) health risk.

Hi Jaunida, thank you very much for the info, we are having to look again at our travel arrangements, in view of the French governments announcements, we may have to postpone our trip to Turre this year, our daughter has booked flights to go out for a week but that now looks in doubt, and will probably lose her money. Disappointing but cannot be helped in the circumstances. Take care

Alan

You are very correct Juanida, we live in Valle del Este, where many of the apartments are holiday homes for Madrileños; they are slowly starting to fill as the Madrileños come here, determined not to lose out on their holiday(s) and seemingly uncaring if they bring the virus with them 🤦‍♂️
