I've come across confusion regarding Borders Opening in Spain for holidaymakers from the UK on facebook and other forums. Some contributors say that on 21st June there may be unrestricted travel between most of Spains regions for people living there and on 1st July most of Spain will open for all...

... UK holidaymakers.

Months ago I started a thread regarding Holidays in Almeria 2020, but it was deleted (at least, I failed to find it). Does anybody know what is to happen and when?

[For the record the Irish PM has asked intending Irish holidaymakers to Spain to wait until further notice].

Go to the UK gov site we found all the information regarding travel in France and Spain.

Spain’s Minister of Tourism has stated that borders will not be open to British nationals immediately.  There is concern over how UK Gov is handling Coronavirus.  I’ll go no further than that, but Spain’s borders are not open to British nationals who are not legal residents at this time, or indeed on 1st July.

As I’ve said before, Watch the airlines.  Jet2 cancelled it’s plans to resume flights on 1st July, instead now scheduling to start 15th July.

Whilst State of Alarm nationally ends 22 June, individual regions can maintain their own restrictions if rate of infection is still high.  It’s unlikely that there will be unrestricted travel between regions on 22 June.

For those that do come here, please note Spain has passed legislation making wearing of masks in enclosed public spaces obligatory.  On the spot fines of up to 100€ being given for non-compliance.  For those thinking they’ll chance it, that police won’t care ... this lockdown cost Spain some money. They will want to make it back and both Guardia and Policia Local are ruthlessly efficient at handing out fines.  On that note, TGSS has begun investigations into several businesses that falsely claimed for employees, or who facilitated claims by persons who were not actually employed.  Prosecutions will follow.

Excellent post Dario, I know you posted this before, but I couldn't find it. Some other forums and facebook pages have posters  near a frenzy pointing out that from 1st July (at latest) Spain becomes open country to everybody from anywhere.

The airlines are protecting their own interests by their representations to anybody who'll listen to allow their airline fly from anywhere to Spain. Perhaps I'm getting this wrong? But it appears to me that they are asking every other government except the Spanish government for access to Spain.

Pointless asking Spain when Spain has already said “not just yet thanks”

But yes, Facebook groups and UK papers (I understand) are in a frenzy of announcing Spain’s re-opening on 1/7.  Not just yet, Britain, not just yet.

I note from the Euroweekly headline that Costa del Sol is now a governing country and has as its subject Andalucia in tow. So the tail does wag the dog!

Everyone is in a frenzy here because British Embassy just tweeted that the re-opening on 21/6 DOES apply to UK, however BBC 5 announced that Spain is considering a tit-for-tat 14 day quarantine on UK visitors unless UK drops their 14 day requirement.

Whilst it all sounds official, it’s not in the BOE - Boletín Oficial de Estado yet, so we wait and see.  There is talk that the PSOE government here was forced to U Turn on not allowing Brits by mounting pressure from PP / Vox et. al.

HOWEVER .... masks ARE still obligatory, and anyone coming here will find social distancing and wearing of masks and gloves  in supermarkets is enforced

I’m not sure Brits will return to Spain this year in huge numbers. In surveys recently nearly 70% have said they intend to stay at home until next year. I wonder if Johnson’s quarantine may be a cynical attempt to ‘persuade’ the British public to stay and spend their money in Britain rather than Europe. I wouldn’t put it past him! Anyway, as long as Ryanair are prepared to fly me I’m coming in early July 😎

It would be really good to see the residents and those wishing to become residents returning; holidaymakers may find though having to “book” a place on the beach, and for a set number of hours (yes indeed!) a little onerous, along with the mandatory wearing of masks in ALL indoor public spaces, along with reduced numbers allowed in shops and mandatory use of sanitizer on entry to a lot of shops ... kind of takes away from the holiday “feel”

We’ve managed to drive down the numbers and get the virus under control, whereas in UK, R value is still high in some areas ... we cannot afford a second lockdown, and I’m certain British holiday makers don’t want to experience what a Spanish Military and Police enforced lockdown feels like (think fines starting at 600€ for first offence and arrest if offence is repeated)

Spain can enforce these regulations as it has a higher number of police per head of population than even the USA.  USA has 1 police officer per 400 people - here it’s 1 per 200 ....

My understanding is that Spain already has a 14 day quarantine requirement for all visitors which may be lifted on the 21st June.
