Thanks again DarioMartin for the Wise and Revolut info.

Incidentally, the young lady at Sabadell you mention by name is the very one we found to be a right pain, with three visits needed to get absolutely nowhere. And no, we didn’t shout at her. Wouldn’t dream of it…

I’ve migrated to the BBVA thread for the moment for more info on them. Fingers crossed…

I have recently opened a BBVA account after being told it would be free of maintenance charges as over 800€ going in every 4 weeks from my U.K. pension.  However they’ve just told me that there may be a transfer fee of 0.4% and a minimum charge of 21€ for any euro transfer from a non-eu bank.  I regularly transfer additional sums in euros from my Starling euro account into my Cajamar account with absolutely no additional charges. Has anyone else had this experience with BBVA and does it also apply to sums coming in from Wise/currenciesdirect/ Revolut?  The Cajamar online banking may be rubbish and their systems inefficient but at least I’m not being charged just to give them euros!

Both Wise and Revolut are EU based so wouldn’t attract the Non-EU bank fees.

My revolut account seems to have a GB IBAN reference -does this still count as an EU account?

It’ll have a GB reference for your GB account, but if you open a Euro balance, you’ll get a LT reference for Lithuania.  Money paid into your GB IBAN can then simply be balance-transferred into your Euro account and from there transfer to Spanish bank fee-free as it will come from an EU IBAN

Good to know -particularly as I only use Revolut for euro transactions. How easy is it to change my account from a UK account to an EU one?

I have a euro balance within my GB iban but it still seems to have the gb reference

You don’t need to change it - you just add a Euro account from within the app.

If you already have that, switch to your Euro balance by pressing the little arrow next to the amount and clicking / tapping on the Euro balance, THEN click / tap “details” and that will give you your EU IBAN
