We will be returning to our part time home in the Sierra Cabrera at the end of April. I’m looking to join an art and/or a ceramics class. As a couple we are also interested in walking, history, singing and music. would also like to get to know some new people who enjoy living in the area

Advice on hiking in Cabo de Gata - 1 replies
As a frequent visitor to Vera Playa and naturist, I heard that Cabo de Gata offers opportunities for hiking. However, I would prefer to hike in a group, rather than alone. Does anyone have experience in such trips?
Kennel cough vaccinations - 1 replies
I am probably going to need to put my dog in kennels locally for a short return to the U.K. in Spring. Does anyone know if local kennels require a kennel cough vaccination before they will accept a pet, or even if kennel cough is a significant problem here
Good dentist needed! - 2 replies
i’ve just discovered from my U.K dentist that I need two crowns and two implants which are going to cost megabucks in the U.K. I’ve no doubt she’s right but I’m also pretty sure I can get a good job done in Almeria province for considerably less. Although I live in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park, I’m happy to travel anywhere in the province - within reason! Any recommendations? I can cope with a dentist in Spanish although obviously English is easier
Recycling electricals - 3 replies
I’m dying under a mountain of unused charging cables -many not working -ethernet cables, scart items and old electronic equipment. I was going to bundle them all up and take to UK where electrical stores have an obligation to accept them for recycling. Is there anything similar in Spain -can I just dump them at MediaMarkt? Also do you know anywhere that will accept used but still usable bedding such as sheets, pillows etc? I was going to leave these near charbolas in Nijar -but they seem to have disappeared recently

A good English speaking internet company in or near Nijar - 4 replies
Hello,
If all goes well I will be moving to Villa de Nijar with my family in 6 weeks and need to find a good internet company, just for internet. Preferably good rates, a good customer service that also speaks English. I read on an older topic that Digi is a good solution, people were positive about it. Is that still the case in 2023 ? Do they have a service point close by ? I contacted the chat service today for some questions, but they didn't speak Spanish and when I asked specific questions they just refered to the website (which I already found). Maybe the chat service is different from the other services. Anyone having good experiences with them ? Thanks !
PS: Did I chose the right area on this forum ? 'El Cabo de Gata' while living in Nijar ?

Free banking - 36 replies
I know this has often been answered before but I can’t find the thread at the moment! I currently bank with Cajamar using their Wefferent account and have now been told I can have a standard branch account without charge as I have all my U.K. pension going into the account every 4 weeks at more than 1000€ per month. But I am getting increasingly hacked off with the failings of Cajamar apps and online banking. 19 telephone calls to them over the last two days and one hour in the branch to solve some of the problems has done nothing to improve my temper! Most of my Spanish banking is online but I may need to go into the branch from time to time to sort out problems.
What recommendations are there for Spanish banks which work well online and do not charge fees if regular payments are made into the account? Also how complicated/frustrating is it to change all the utility payments etc to the new bank - too many years in Spain mean that I have no real faith in the availability of easy non-bureaucratic systems!
Spanish EHIC - 28 replies
Got a worrying message from my son who is a Spanish resident, and been living with hi family near Malaga for 8 years. While he was spending Christmas in Lisbon, he needed to attend a hospital following a dog bite. Apparently his U.K. EHIC has long since expired, and although he is a fully registered Spanish resident with full access to health care in Spain, he isn’t able to get an EHIC here to cover emergency health care while in the rest of the EU. Is there a way round this about from making sure he has the right travel insurance?
