I know this has often been answered before but I can’t find the thread at the moment!  I currently bank with Cajamar using their Wefferent account and have now been told I can have a standard branch account without charge as I have all my U.K. pension going into the account every 4 weeks at more than 1000€ per month.  But I am getting increasingly hacked off with the failings of Cajamar apps and online banking.  19 telephone calls to them over the last two days and one hour in the branch to solve some of the problems has done nothing to improve my temper!  Most of my Spanish banking is online but I may need to go into the branch from time to time to sort out problems.

What recommendations are there for Spanish banks which work well online and do not charge fees if regular payments are made into the account?  Also how complicated/frustrating is it to change all the utility payments etc to the new bank - too many years in Spain mean that I have no real faith in the availability of easy non-bureaucratic systems!

Try N26 online banking, no charges and no need for regular deposits, will also arrange change of DD and SO,

Thanks. I know about N26 but am hoping to find a bank with physical branches rather than solely online.

We changed last year from Unicaja to Bankinter. If you have a monthly pension or the equivalent of minimum 800 euros a month you can have free online banking with the added advantage of branches in Vera, 2 in Almeria city and one in Roquetas if you need to talk face to face at any time. You can use many more ATMs than a lot of online banks and without charge. We're very satisfied so far.

Good to know.  I am in Rodalquilar in Cabo de Gata, hence using Cajamar.  But I can always travel if necessary to visit a branch. Has the app always worked well?

 - I still  find that the Cajamar app frequently say “upss - no es disponible” causing me increasing rage!  What was the problem with Unicaja and was the transfer of direct debits etc easy?

Dont touch Bankinter, they are a useless bank.I have been trying to access my accounts whilst away here in Dubai( I have just spent a week in a ICU in Dubai hospital). They have done everything they could possibly do to stop me accessing my own money....

Sounds a bit like the torments of hell I’ve been having with Cajamar!  These banks are great when they work, but a disaster when it all starts to go wrong.

I'll recommend Sabadell.  If you have money going in regularly, there are no charges.  I have been with them since 2016 and have paid no charges at all in all that time.

Their banking app is very very good and you can do just about everything with it.

I also recommend Sabadell after changing from Cajamar.Their online banking and app are very good and I have never had a problem with the app .Only downside is not so many branches if you do need to see face to face.

I gave up with Sabadell, everytime you went to their branch at Vera there was always a great long line and you would wait some 30 minutes to see the one teller.I accepted that because nearly all banks you only see get one teller dealing with the customers.I wanted a mortgage and they messed me about for months In the end I took my business elsewhere.A couple of months later I met the ex manager at a concert He asked how I got on and when I told him he started laughing He said they never had any intention of giving me a mortgage in the first place,I had been wáting my time from the very start...I then tried Ibercaja who again played me along.Eventually I got told they werent lending out money to anyone Spanish included,no banks were lending money full stop They had charged me two 500 euros to do the house inspections.I then went to Bankinter just across the road and they gave me a 50,000 euro loan so Ibercaja were lying.I am with Bankinter but not very impressed with them.I gladly will be leaving Spain soon to live in the Phillipines and I will just use my Wise account and any spare cash will be under the mattress I do not like Spanish banks at all...
