You can’t resist knocking Spain can you? “Government don’t give two hoots about their people” - sorry, Jenni - I’m calling you out on that, because that is an outright lie, and worse, you know it is.

The level of financial support myself and my wife received during 2020 / 2021 as MIGRANT business owners completely destroys your assertion that the government don’t give two hoots - about either their own people, or migrants....

...

As for medical appointments … I can get one in 24 hours as well but that’s nothing remarkable here - it’s taken as granted.  I don’t need a translator either.

It’s funny, but the biggest complaints always seem to come from those who come to Spain but expect English to be spoken …

I’m just glad I live in a country that isn’t trying to back out of the ECHR and push laws back to the late 19th century.

Just out of interest what is the monthly level of support for a Spanish pensioner . My state pension is £741.68 every 4 weeks here .

No idea.  I’ll find out when I reach pensión age.  However advice from TGSS states that as of 2022 it’s 1.250€ per month.

You can call me out on what you like Dario, you are in a privileged position where as you speak fluent Spanish and have to sort of brain that takes in the politics of the country and can handle them, there are 1000's of Brit in Spain that get taken for a ride ever month, only this last week someo...

...ne posted on this forum how they had spent thousand of euro's to get their house in Oria up to scratch by get survey's and AFO's and having the land re measured, only to be told its all wrong they have wasted their money, and of course being Spain there is no come back, because if Spain can rip off the expat then they will. I wish I could find the posting so I could report it to you accurately. this is only from memory.  Yes of course you can get an appointment in Spain at the doctors the very same day, no one is disputing that, but if you dont speak Spanish you need a translator which you have to pay for in the UK the NHS/government pay for the translator.  What I dont understand is why you hate the UK so much and knock it at every opportunity, when you say you have lost the right to vote. So what business is it of yours. I think the reason you find my 'Knocking Spain' so upsetting is because you know I speak from experience and its the truth, and your stuck there.

1. I’m not stuck here.  I have a UK passport and could go to England whenever I wished.

2. You’re a hypocrite - criticizing others for knocking England when having returned to UK, all you do is knock Spain - and are quite misleading about it as well.

3.  I know the Oria post - I’ve been responding to the poster.  Your assertion that there “is no comeback”, is, like so much else of what you write about the country that gave you a home, complete and utter twaddle.

4. I’m far from fluent.  But I learn and practice Every. Single. Day.

5. I don’t hate the UK - I detest extremist Tories, bigots and xenophobes in general and the government in particular.

6. Having a UK passport, you may appreciate I have friends and family in the UK.  What happens to them therefore becomes my business.

7. Once the promised enabling legislation is put forward to parliament, I will again have a vote.  You better believe I’ll be using it.

8. If your knocking Spain is “experience”, I’m Dolly Parton.  You are doing nothing but dredging up a few bad experiences YOU’VE had, blowing them out of proportion and making out that that is all Spain is.  Misleading and dishonest Jenni. Be better than that.

I think the Spanish pensions are far better than your UK ones. People that went to live in Spain years ago and paid into the Spanish system are not only getting their Uk state pension but are getting a Spanish one as well, they are laughing all the way to the bank, and good luck to them.

Still no posts with thoughts on why more than 45,000 people came to uk in small boats in 2022. I can’t see the attraction . When you look at some of the countries they have had to struggle to cross and then face that boat crossing .

Well its because we are an easy entry, we dont turn people away, we let them in and then we moan and pick up the peices. In the paper this weekend, article about pregnant women coming over to have their babies because their country does not have the facilities for difficult births, one woman was having quads and was told by her doctors to go to the USA to give birth, so she got on a plane arriving in the USA only to be put straight back on a plane because she couldn't prove she could pay the hospital bill, the stop over was at Heathrow where she went into labour and gave birth in a London hospital costing the NHS £331,000 which she admits she cant pay, she was from Nigeria, but apparently they come from all over. So the UK being the Mother country accept all  so I suppose 45,000 consider a boat ride even if they put their lives at risk is worth it cos they know we will not turn them away.

A couple of reasons I can think of: English being a very popular second language, England may be where the refugees feel they may be better understood.

A second reason is that since Brexit, UK can no longer return asylum seekers to port of last safe haven under Dublin III agreement, whereas all EU countries can.  An asylum seeker / refugee who makes it to England’s shores stands a much greater chance of staying there.

There’s an awful lot of casual work available for those arrivals who are successful in their applications.  And once arrived in England it sets the stage for their family to join them.

Interestingly enough, whilst a percentage of people in the UK are claiming they are besieged by asylum seekers, and why isn’t EU doing more; UK is not even in the top 10 countries in which asylum seekers seek refuge.

The top 6 are Germany receiving over a quarter (30%) of asylum applications in the EU, followed by:

  • France (19.1%)
  • Spain (10.4%)
  • Italy (8.4%)
  • Austria (6.1%)

Yes never thought of the language thing . At any point while crossing Europe is there any point where they may be stopped and questioned what are you doing here and where are you heading . Things must be really desperate in those countries for them to undertake such a journey .
