Driving from the uk to almeria with a large dog

Hi, if you use viamichelin, you can work out routes plus find dog friendly hotels too. 

depends where your starting point in the UK is but if you take and afternoon crossing then stop for the night at Calais Frethun there is a good hotel near the train terminal/Cite Europe

dog friendly secure parking bar and restaurant you can then have a bit of brekkie and a fresh morning start

Any Ibis hotels are dog friendly. 4 years ago we came through the tunnel, stayed in Pamplona for one night. It was way too much driving for a one-night stopover. We always travel by ferry from Portsmouth/Plymouth to Bilbao/Santander. Our cockapoo is fine with both pet friendly cabins (very rare) or the kennels onboard. We use the older ferry Pont Aven as its only a one night crossing. By the time you've paid tolls, fuel etc from the tunnel, we find it as economical to use ferry as opposed to tunnel.

When you go on Brittany Ferries, they now have a separate page when you try booking with a pet and show you all available dates/kennels, pet friendly cabins etc. Hope this helps 

We drive the return from Calais to Mojacar twice a year and always stop at different places. If you’re prepared to make it part of the adventure then it can be very rewarding. We never book ahead but use Booking.com or Airbnb and use the dog friendly filter on the websites to find appropriate accommodation. It’s surprising how many guest houses, hotels and bnb will accommodate dogs although they will charge a small additional fee.

We drove down through France and Spain with two dogs and a cat. We stayed at Ibis hotels. Basic but clean and cheap. 

There are more in France than in Spain. We came down the middle (Madrid - Jaen - Granada) and it's hard to find anything - let alone dog-friendly - once you leave Madrid.
