Was an interesting story - if it could be believed - with a few at the end turning their life around and two actually going on to join the regular Army...

The basis of conscription or a boot camp is discipline and authority - old fashioned concepts that many (not all) youngsters would laugh at and refuse to accept. How would you enforce the rules?

Society as a whole has laws to protect people and property and should be respected, but how often are laws enforced? 

Unfortunately there are too many loopholes, too many excuses, too many people who expect to have everything their own way. And no real authority. 

It's a sad state of affairs. Children and young people should be protected, but not put on a pedestal. Some (not all) are not given boundaries, are not taught to consider others, and are allowed to be selfish at the expense of the rest of society.

If only there was a simple solution.

I did 10 years in the Air Force and did basics in the early 80’s when Drill Instructors were still allowed to be a little bit brutal. In a wholesome “nice” way, of course...  I hated it for the first two weeks. It was the most defining 6 weeks of my life and I look back and offer thank...
