Hola SarahB

We have done something similar before as we moved to France for 5 years!. Now wish we had come strait to dpain with a whole lot more money!

We are looking forward to a slower and quieter life style. Had planned on bring  dog and cat food with us so we can transition the change over as both dogs are food sensitive. At least we will have the caravan to use if necessary.

The roof looked mostly solid just a bit of repointing between the tiles on the edge wall and a bit of lead flashing. Has electric and water all set up for us so hopefully not too bad. One step up from camping in the kitchen and bathroom to our standards but hey ho good british spirit and all that stuff we will cope and what's the fun in having all spuck and span in someone else's choices? Take care safe trip down and hope there are no delays.

Leslea

Maybe when you come down in October we could meet up for a drink somewhere and a chat?

Hi just wondered how's things were with your move. Did you manage to get there? We were due to sail on Tuesday but our ferry was cancelled. We haven't been to our house since February!  Fortunately we have a good neighbor who pops in to check it's ok.

All the best

Sarah

Hi SarahB ,

Well we have arrived in style!

We took a wrong turn once we reached the village turned left instead of right and ended up in a ditch!

Civil guard assisted and found the only English lady in the village and a farmer to tow us out. Great way to meet the neighbours ha ha  it wouldn't have been so had but we were towing our caravan at the time !.

Have now registered with the local town hall. So we are legal. Just have to sort out a series of burst pipes and get a wood stove and an oven then we shall be set for winter, still living in the caravan at the moment . I'm back off to UK for a knee op then back for good hopefully. Sorry your ferry got cancelled we came over 2 weeks later than planned as the removal company was held up in Calais with the strike. We came in the end on the 11th October.

So far we are still happy with the move even though the house needs more work than first anticipated. But we have the time and will work at our own pace. Look forward to meeting you once we can be allowed too. Good luck with your next ferry booking. X

Hi SarahB,

We have completed in purchase now and leave UK on 27th September with cat and dogs and caravan in tow so will take a couple of days driving down from Santander. Then we will be busy shopping around for an oven and a wood stove to start with! Also dog food suppliers as ours are on Wainwrights and ...

...I did not see any in the supermarkets  but all part of the fun of relocating.

Hi Leslea,

Just caught in your post that your dog is on Wainwrights.  I haven't seen that in the supermarkets or pet shops here, so you could try on line at Bitiba.es  or Mascota.es both do home deliveries.

Safe Journey

Hi Sarah,

Yes we have been all round Baza so surprised at how large the shopping area is especially in the old town part.

Handy with both large supreme there. Also found a lovely shop selling wood stoves down by the tennis club and the lady was from Essex!

So after hubby doing his search around all shops selling wood stoves we ended back there as they were the only ones who would do installation for us and not expensive.

So have you managed to get over here at all what with all the lockdowns?

Stay safe

Leslea

Hi We haven't been able to get there sadly. Hopefully we can visit in February fingers crossed!

It's driving me nuts not being able to get there!

So glad you're finding your way around the area. It has a lot to offer.

Keep warm and safe

Hopefully lockdown will be eased up again soon if they can get a handle on this new strain.

Stay well and safe.

Hi  Sarah,

Yes we are slowly getting there  plenty of work to keep us busy.

We have met a few new English as well as Spanish friends in the villages either side of us which is nice.

Yes I think we just got here in between the lock downs.

Now we are trying to get out residencies done but we do not have quite enough savings at the moment, they want €10,000 in the bank first. So beware for when you come over permanently!

Stay safe  i can't wait to meet you in person. X

Glad to hear that you have settled in. We are considering whether to just spend three months at a time in Spain and keep our house in the UK that way we won't have to apply for residency (I hope). Brexit has made things difficult. That way we can use the NHS (we have paid into it after all) and keep our UK bank account.

Not sure when we will get out there again but fingers crossed it will be sometime this year!

Looking forward to meeting up with you

Sarah
