Hello everyone, just to say we are looking forward to moving over to Spain as soon as we are allowed to move about again. We are in the process of buying a house in Venta Quemada so are interested in finding out things like ,shops, markets ,doctors, dentist opticians vets, etc. So we would appreciate and welcome any help that can be offered. We know very little of the area as we were originally looking the other side of the mountains near a friend but cost and lack of the right type of property brought us to look around here and we have fallen in love with all that we have seen si far. Thank you in anticipation of your replies. Stay safe stay healthy..

Welcome to the area Leslea.

although I'm not famiIiar with Venta Quemada, it is not far from Cullar and Chirivel. The latter has bars, a few small shops, pharmacy, doctors surgery and a sizeable market on a Friday.

We tend to do our main shop in a major supermarket in Puerta Lumbreras  and top ups in the local shops and market in Chirivel. Baza is just up the road from you and has  a couple of major supermarkets.

I'm sure others will be able to fill in the gaps for you

best wishes

Richard

Hello

Thank you Richard this is very useful information for us, as we had not had time to look all around the village we assumed that there would have been a small shop or one close by.

Our mistake!

We can not wait to complete on our purchase and move over.

But this is now all dependent on Covid-19 and when all borders can open again.

Stay safe and keep healthy.

Hi Leslea

How are things going with your move? We have a holiday home in El Contador, not far from your village.

We tend to head to Baza when we arrive as it has two large supermarkets there. We do a big shop and if we run out of anything we pop to Chirivel where there is a smaller supermarket. Or you can use one if the many petrol stations. The one new our village is 24 hours. In Baza you can buy most things. They have nice furniture shops, electrical shops, a DIY store on the right hand side as you enter Baza (we get our fire wood here), a plumbing shop and a few hypermarkets. Have a drive round when you get there. If you need gas bottles let me know and I will give you the tele number.

Velez Rubio and Velez Blanco are worth a visit. There you will find a huge open air swimming pool, kids pools and bar. I think its 4 Euros a day per person. We take a picnic and chairs and spend the day. In Velez Blanco there is a stunning castle ( Google it).

Albox is worth a visit. Lots of shops and a fantastic Indian restaurant.

We also like a trip to Mojacar pueblo (old town) and Mojacar Playa (beach) and you are closer than we are.

Sorry if you have already read this information on my previous posts.

If you need anymore info just let me know

Hi SarahB,

We have completed in purchase now and leave UK on 27th September with cat and dogs and caravan in tow so will take a couple of days driving down from Santander. Then we will be busy shopping around for an oven and a wood stove to start with! Also dog food suppliers as ours are on Wainwrights and I did not see any in the supermarkets  but all part of the fun of relocating.

Hi so happy to hear that you have a moving date. How exciting for you! We have done the drive from Santander and will hopefully be doing it again in October. It's quite a nice drive as the roads are nice and quiet. We tend to stop half way to use the loo and stretch our legs. We find it easier to buy anything for the house in the UK and take it with us. Might be worth taking plenty of pet food with you to keep you going until you find a supplier in Spain. It will be strange for you and you will probably question whether you have done the right thing. We did at first as we had no hot water or heating, a leaky roof and had no idea how to sort it. We also felt like sore thumbs walking around the village! Just say hola to everyone you see and the locals will love you!

Good luck to you and keep in touch as we intend to move to our village in a couple of years once our boy has settled in university bit sadly can only use it as a holiday home until then

Sarah

Hola SarahB

We have done something similar before as we moved to France for 5 years!. Now wish we had come strait to dpain with a whole lot more money!

We are looking forward to a slower and quieter life style. Had planned on bring  dog and cat food with us so we can transition the change over as both dogs are food sensitive. At least we will have the caravan to use if necessary.

The roof looked mostly solid just a bit of repointing between the tiles on the edge wall and a bit of lead flashing. Has electric and water all set up for us so hopefully not too bad. One step up from camping in the kitchen and bathroom to our standards but hey ho good british spirit and all that stuff we will cope and what's the fun in having all spuck and span in someone else's choices? Take care safe trip down and hope there are no delays.

Leslea

Maybe when you come down in October we could meet up for a drink somewhere and a chat?

Hi even though we had some challenges it made us appreciate things more. Would you not recommend living in France? My husband wants to sell up here in a couple of years and buy a property there so we can travel between there and Spain.

We must definitely meet for a drink. I wasn't sure we would be able to come as we may have to quarantine when we return but my work has said if that is the case I would get paid!

It is very peaceful around the area you are moving to. A few of our family members prefer being closer to the coast but I think we have the best of both worlds as the coast is not too far.

Anyway all the best and I will message you in October before we visit
