Hi. My husband's Dad was Irish and he applied for his Irish passport before Brexit, following advice on this site. I am UK passport holder. We are not in receipt of state pensions

We have just arrived in Spain to sign 6 month rental property. A requirement to apply for residency. We have had to supply our marriage certificate, translated and distilled into Spainish. We needed a Spainish bank account with 19,000€ in it ( minimum). We needed a letter from that bank confirming amount. We needed private healthcare. I

Once we have been to pass on and signed rental agreement my husband will apply for residency and I will apply as his spouse. It shouldn't take longer than 90 days although once residentia has been applied for by both of us the schengen click stops.

Hope this helps. This forum has been amazing help for us. Hope we can help too

I have recently (a Year ago) obtained Irish Citizenship having lived there for 27 years, the waiting list for this type of application is now taking over two years and is about €1300 with all the fees. My wife took the citizenship route because her Father was Irish and it was a matter of weeks but you need a long form birth certificate and you need to ensure that you can prove the relations birth is registered in Ireland through their Birth Certificate, this is a cheaper and shorter route but the passport office is understaffed and there are delays to what the normal process takres

Have to say I’m really surprised  at the 6 week time scale. My son has just had his Irish citizenship approved over 2 1/2 years of application, and he still has to apply for the passport.  My brother, who is half Irish like me, took 9 months just to get the passport a couple of years ...

...ago, although this was a couple of years ago and things may have speeded up since.  By contrast I got the passport itself within 4 weeks but that was in 2014 when Cameron first announced he was calling a referendum

It took a couple of years for my irish citizenship to come through, and that was more than ten years ago.

I will be applying via grandmother, I can prove her birth and marriage and also my mother (her daughter), I realise it may take some time.  I want citizenship and passport to enable me to live in Spain. I assume my husband can join me as spouse .  Will proceed with mission and see where it takes me! Thanks for advice.

Hi,

The process is cumbersome and can take a lot of time, first you have to get an FBR foreign birth registration document and pay the application fee, when you complete this and send to tehm all birth, death and marrigae certificates of Parents and Grandparents have to be included as well as yourself.  The irish ones are about £80 each document and the UK ones £15-20 plus the application fee of £280. I got mine in about 4 months pre-pandemic my wife waited 23months post pandemic.  Once youu have this you can then apply for a passport which is another fee of about £200 all in. As of today my wife still doesnt have that been waiting 6 months so far.

The first date of issue was supposed to be 30th Apriil but they missed that deadline and reset the timer the second date was 30th June and they have missed that timeline and as of today we still havent received it.

If anybody on here got there in 6 week's I am envious and wish I knew how to get them to expedite things, I have also hung on the phone for hours only to be cut off when you get near the end of the queue, and normally they just dont answer the webchat is never online so no contact that way either.

Hi yes, this scenario sounds more realistic. I’m not planning a move for a couple of years to the Arboleas area. Although not needing to work, I’d like the option as not sure complete relaxation is needed at 55 years of age 😃

Your version of proof and theirs are probably different. You will certainly require the long version of her birth certificate as they will not accept the short version and you must have proof of registration of her birth in Ireland or you will have to register her birth in Ireland if it is not registered. Birth registrations were not comprehensive in the past

It’s all logged on ancestry site so definitely entered correctly, I have images.

Only trying to guide you in the right direction- certainly copies of what’s on the ancestry site will not suffice - best thing to do is to start the process and see how you get on

My wife has corrected me and says that as you are claiming citizenship through a Grandparent you will be required to register your birth in Ireland as a Foreign Birth and this costs around €200

As highlighted you will require full long certificates of all documents screen shots or downloads from ancestry sites won’t be accepted. On mine and my wife’s applications I am £2k in for all applications and documents, postage etc
