Okay hopefully someone can give me a bit of advice. We are heading to Malaga for a week in January arriving the 5th and returning to UK on the 12th. My passport was issued in February 2014 and expires on 14th April 2024. According to the Spanish Embassy in London my passport is okay as I return 93 days before it expires but I am worried that some over officious border control person might not allow me to enter as my passport has an additional 2 months over the 10. I have time to go to the passport office and get a renewal but that will cost me an extra £100 and a day at the passport office in Glasgow. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Ernie

We travelled back from Birmingham in November, and witnessed a couple in front of us being refused flight, as their passports ISSUE DATE, not EXPIRY DATE was three days over. So this was with Ryanair, so please check Issue date, which needs at least 3 months left on it. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. My issue date is 14th February so my passport is okay that way.

The advice on the Spanish Embassy website is that the passport should be less than 10 years old on the day of travel and that expiry should be 3 months after departure which mine matches. Just got a wee worry as it’s tight

Your bigger problem is the airline not border control.  You’re going to need a new passport anyway. Just do it. £100 fast track is a pain agreed but cheaper than being refused boarding on the day of travel.

Perfect thank you that has set my mind at rest as my passport is under 10 years since issue and has over 3 months on departure 👍

Yes you are probably correct but as a stingy Scot I want to stretch my EU passport to the limit lol
