Hi, congrats on making the move, partner mulled over renting her UK property but decided against but she didn't rent in Spain, she was lucky enough to be able to holiday with an old friend and colleague and got a feel for this place from 2-3 years doing that.

When the chance came to purchase her property she was well fixed and comfortable and confident enough to do just that and almost 3 years on has never been so happy.

The village she lives in is a small place called Urcal, a few minutes from the nearest town of Huercal over a, 10 minutes from the A7 E15 motorway, 40 minutes from the coast, H/O is a nice size, busy, great hospital, traffic links aren't the best but if you're looking to drive the roads are great, the Spanish seem to forget how to indicate once they get their driving licences but you need as much all round observation here as anywhere.

Urcal is a nice mix of Spanish and ex-pats, very friendly, the probably main bar is a great meeting place both mornings and evenings, everyone pitches in and helps where and when needed. You'll make friends in no time. Plenty of good restaurants in Mojacar doing 3 courses, 12 starters, 12 mains and 12 desserts lol for an average €15,

There's nice properties available at good prices, some with pools, mostly served by Andy Voss and his great team who have an office in H/O. Everyone can and probably will suggest/recommend a good solicitor/avocado, call them what you will, partner used Mandy and Chris from Cam concepts and couldn't recommend them highly enough for help with anything you can think of.

Another excellent service is on hand at C.A.T Services in La Alfoquia.

There's a Dames who meet every third Wednesday who organise events and trips, they got a coach of 40 odd last week for a trip up to the Sierra Nevada mountains and just this Sunday, today the local bar organised a wine tasting trip which I doubt will be the last. Most everyone is linked on messenger and Facebook, WhatsApp etc. There's a birthday fairly regularly either at the bar or come the warmer summer months bbq's at folks homes, you get the picture ?? Lol,

Urcal has been featured on place in the sun a couple of times too.

Oh, darts night Thursday too lol.  Come on down lol

Hi Lesley.

Everything you have said is me!!!! Except for the bit about buying as I would want to rent first. Also I am looking at Mojacar area but could be tempted by the Campo as I will have a car if I decide to stay permanently.

Please let me know if you find your dream home. Lots of luck for your search.

Maz. X

Hi Maz

Glad there are others out there like me. I will let you know how I get on and maybe when we're both living the dream we can meet up for a coffee or wine which ever is your tipple

Hi

I am looking forward to the move whenever that will be and things you have said give me confidence that I am making the right decision to move, whether I rent or buy. I love the idea of the Dames, not sure on the darts haven't played for over 40 years but would have a go if everyone stood back! meeting up at the local bar for coffee also sounds great to meet people.  I am actually looking at a property in Urcal on one of the days that I'm there in March so who knows I might end up living there. I will have to join facebook when I come out, not on it now as I am a bit rubbish on those kind of things, behind the times as my son calls it.

Thanks for your input

Hi again, if you're looking at property in Urcal get in touch and pop in here, there's usually wine/beer in the fridge, tea and coffee, we're down the motorway end of the village, turn right by the mail boxes, keep right into a cul de sac, partners villa is #68, Casa Ann margaret on the right, long black gate, Honda under the car port.

Hi Lesley,

I live in Huercal Overa (Urcal) area. A good estate agent is Voss Homes. I have 2 knee replacements and an in my mis 60's now. Pension at the end of this year, at last, yay. There is a group of ladies in The Dames of Huercal Overa who meet once a month and dd some lovely trips.  Last week we went to Sierra Nevada mountains, it was lovely. There are also social evenings, quite a few ladies are also single. There are lots of dog charities crying out for fosters in this area too. If you're coming over, we can take you around the areas you mentioned. We have Spanish lessons in Arboleas, and used to live in Albox. Good luck and feel free to message me or find me on Facebook. It's a great life here in Spain.

Thanks for getting in touch, Voss Homes is one of the agents I am looking with and they are showing me 4 villas.

Someone else mentioned the dames, which I would be interested in as it appears there are many friends to make out there.

Also dog fostering sounds good as I wouldn't want my own when I first move, maybe when I'm settled.

I had a hip replacement 18 months ago and now it appears I might have to have a knee replacement, just waiting on the x ray. One of the reasons to come to the Spain is the winter sun  as I have mild arthritis and when I have spent time there in the Winter I don't feel the pain that I do here.

Hopefuuly we can meet in the near future

Best wishes lesley

That would be good Lesley, as I can take you.  The sun has done marvels for my arthritis.  I'm on Facebook. Elspeth Waterworth.
