If you move to mojacar you have a lot of single women of your age, giving each other a lot of support.  Lots of womens groups.  When you are over pop into loose women on a Tuesday at the roof garden, where a lot of friendly women meet up.

Hi Lesley. Around a year ago, my wife and I were exactly where you are right now. Here is how it was for us. Retirement looming and the inability to afford to live in our then current home in Essex. Only a two bed bungalow, but crippling council tax, energy costs and of course, running a car was ...

...no go on our pensions.

We spent from January until September researching a move to Spain and the more we looked into all aspects, the easier the decision to move here became.

I introduced myself on this forum and was treated to the same negativity by Matthew as you have just read. Now I dont dismiss his comments out of hand, but what he cant possibly know are people's circumstances and he is utterly wrong to post blanket comments without some detailed input from the people he is addressing.

My missus and I sold a property in the south east of England for a lot of money. We settled all our debts, bought a fabulous villa near Arboleas and also treated ourselves to a very nice car as well. AND not only do we have a decent lump of money left, but we also receive more than enough to cover the amazingly low cost of living. In our specific circumstances, why would we ever want to waste money renting Matthew.

Anyway Lesley, back to you. Most of the good advice has already been offered. Make sure you get a good lawyer, etc. Its commonsense really. You wouldn't DIY your conveyancing in England, so why would you do it here in Spain.

The main advice from me is invest in a couple of weeks here in Almeria for a scouting trip. You know the type of life you're looking for so have a good look around the province to ensure that you get exactly what you want.

Lastly, a comment about Arboleas. My other half and I have settled here in no time and feel completely at home. That's because all the people around here are so nice and so helpful. It's a wonderful place to live. What may be a negative for you would be a lack of nightlife in the immediate area and it would be very helpful indeed if you drive and intend to add a car to your shopping list. As we treasure a bit of peace and quiet, the tranquil area suits us very well. Obviously, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

It's very easy to overload people with info, so that's my cue to shut up and leave you to give it your utmost thought. Very last words. Scouting trip crucial. End of the day, the only opinion that matters is yours.

Best of luck. Lee

Hi Lee

Thanks for getting in touch I do relate to a lot of what you've said. I am in coming to view some properties end of  next week not to buy yet but to get a feel of what I can get for my money. Renting first does seem a sensible option to make sure I'm in the right area. I am looking for a quiet life style so think I'm on the right track.

Regards lesley

Hola

I'm doing some research on whether it is feasible for me to make a permanent home in Almeria (looking around Mojacar area). Could I please ask for some information:

Can anyone please give me an idea of the living costs to help with my budgeting. I am a single lady hoping to find a 2 bedroom property so I can have friends/family over (initially renting).

I love gardening so am torn between an apartment with the added attraction of being near the coast and communal pool or a property with more space in the Campo (I will be bringing my car). How much 'gardening' can I realistically do given the climate?

Many thanks

Maz x

Almeria is a large area, Almeria city is down by the airport, Albox is around an hour north, have you got a defined area you'd like to visit ?

I don't have any idea where Olive property agents might be, a little further north in Huercal Over a You'll find Voss homes as well as a recently opened sun sea and selling houses office, partner bought from/through Voss and come highly recommended.

Hi

I have been recommended 3 agents, Voss homes, Spanish property choice and Coles of Andalucia. I will be meeting them all this week so can give some feed back when I return home.

Hi Lesley.

We bought our villa through Emma & Matt at Sun, Sea and Selling Houses and we couldn't have been happier with how the deal went. I wont bore you with details, but our purchase was a fair way from normal, but no problems encountered.

While we're talking property, you should look into using Amanda Oakley of ALO Services in Zurgena to conveyance your purchase.

Last but not least, Cats Services in La Alfoquia do excellent work sorting out your Residecia.

Best of luck. Lee

Hi...You might like to add these guys...I found that Almeria Homes (especially Katia) were very helpful and active in Albox surrounding areas...Tim from Coles too... Calida homes are very active in Arboleas and they have been very keen...However I have almost no personal experience of them

Comments from anyone on any of these is welcome
