We are in the process of buying a holiday flat in Veraplaya and was interested in what was said in this post. At the moment we have a Revoult account & a Wise account. I thought perhaps having a Spanish bank account would ideal re direct debits etc and thought that the Cajamar wefferent would be ideal as there are no fees and it’s all online. I downloaded the app and then proceeded to sign up for an account only to find you have to be resident to apply. If anyone knows of another bank that is fee free and open to non residents I would be most grateful. Thanks

I have just done this with a friend.
You have to take your documents into a Cajamar branch first, to be verified first. They will set you up on their system and give you a login in and password, in branch . They don't open the account.
You use the details they give you to login to the Cajamar app from where you can then open the free WEFFERENT account (think it says Wefferent Pack)
Take your NIE, passport, proof of home address, home country tax reference, telephone number (for app texts) & email address. They cannot open the account without a tax reference. We had to go back again with it
They will send your debit card to the whatever non-resident address you give them.
Although the account is free, anything that involves the branch, after the initial set up, will incur a charge of 30€ on the account (so I am told). Everything must be internet based to be free.
