The way things are going, look into a petrol electric hybrid, the Spanish seem to love hybrids and road tax is in the tens, as in €30 for the year for partners Honda Insight hybrid. On going legislation will I'm sure favour hybrids.

Partners Honda is petrol electric, right hand drive too, we drive all over and tho some have said it's like driving in the gutter lol, we've had no problems whatsoever in the getting on for 3 years we've been here.

Probably more than in the UK you need eyes all over you're head as some Spanish take no note of speed limits, if you're doing the legal limit of 120 kph there's always someone, not always BmW, Mercedes, Audi etc got to be there in a hurry

I think future legislation and probably development of vehicles will see a transition to either hybrid or with improvement in battery technology, pure electric - the Tesla has a pretty good range I understand.

Before that happens though, there will need to be massive investment in electric charging infrastructure in the more remote areas .... i.e. down here!! It’s also going to take a big sideways shift in thinking for the more traditional people here to give up their fossil fuel vehicles for the new-fangled electrical things - it’s not been that long that some areas here have even had electricity.

Vehicle prices will need to be affordable to all as well - subsidy from government if you give up your fossil fuel vehicle?

Until that happens though, distances here tend to favour the economy and range of diesel vehicles.  No matter how good a petrol engine is, a diesel is generally more fuel efficient.  Regulations ensure emissions are kept low and that’s checked each year at ITV.

I’d love a pure electric vehicle - but I can’t afford a Tesla and the range of others is not yet at a level where long trips are sustainable.

Hybrid is an option, but still too expensive - plus I’ve driven a Prius and just DIDN’T enjoy it .....

There will come a time though, when electric / hybrid vehicles will outnumber fossil fuel vehicles on the road.  Maybe not tomorrow, but I’ll be interested to see the balance in 10 years time.

For now, I’ll stick with my hugely economical, very torquey diesel Peugeot

Hi, the €1 per litre post was back in February, if you keep you're eyes peeled, Vera diesel is cheap, as you come into Vera from Antas side, go over the bull ring roundabout and carry straight on.

The garage down the hill on the way into Albox on the poligono is usually the cheapest around here, I believe the next cheapest might be either of the two gas stations as you leave Huercal Over over the motorway by Cabrera transport.

Maybe we can all set up a price watch with daily postings of diesel/petrol prices, and maybe more gas stations could increase LPG sites as LPG at around 60 cents a litre might offer more savings.

Can we try and keep a check on electric car charging points ? I don't know if many if any in my local area between H/O and the coast.

That’d be a good idea - only electric car charging ports I’ve actually seen were in the  IKEA underground parking at Murcia, but there must be some closer somewhere ....

One day, yes - but not in the imminent future.  A very high percentage of cars in Spain are Diesel - looking at the cars I see around me I’d have to say over 50%.

Banning Diesel cars would put somewhat of strain on an already very much weakened economy, so it’s not going to be happening for a few years.  And if you ban Diesel you’ll have to offer an alternative and the infrastructure for pure electric is years away.  Before Diesel could be banned, there would have to be some incentive to those people with Diesel to swap to hybrid or electric .... there is absolutely no money for that - certainly not now.

Came out of Lidl in Huercal Overa today and the new gas station opposite is selling diesel at €0.92 cents a litre and 95 octane petrol at €0.99.
