Hi has anyone flew by Ryan Air with less than 6 months left on your passport. UK and Spanish government sites say 3 months on Ryan Air web site it says 3 months but when you try to check it asks for 6 months. Meant to be flying next Saturday with car hire booked. We have 5 months left from renewal 9 month till it expires.

Thanks

That is because you can stay up to 90 days in one go but on exit you must have 90 days left on passport, so to ensure you are “legal, RyanAir (and others) are asking for 180 days.

Your passport expiry is 10 years from the date of issue, any extra added on because of a previous early renewal is not counted or considered.

Good news Ryanair are allowing 3 months left on your passport the web site has changed from 6 to 3 months. We checked in ok and arrived last night so all good. Bring on the sunshine just got to clean up the red mud mess first.😎

*Just a note on this for others though* : don’t go booking a two or three week holiday with only three months left on your passport.  The three months referred to is from date of EXIT, not entry.

Also, as previously mentioned, please ensure that the three months left is counted within the 10 years from date of ISSUE of the passport, not indicated date of expiration.

e.g. if a few years ago you renewed your passport early, Passport office were adding the unexpired time to the end, so you could end up with a passport theoretically valid for say 10 years and 6 or 7 months … that 6 or 7 months is invalid as far as EU border controls are concerned, your passport is valid for 10 years from date of issue, no more (Passport office have since ceased adding unexpired time back on, so passports renewed within last two years or so will be ok)

So to reiterate, please check if you are coming as a visitor that

1) Passport is valid, i.e. it is still within 10 years from date of issue; and

2) Within that 10 years, you still have 3 months left from planned date of exit.
