Hi there, my husband and I will be coming to Vera to live from next year. He has Irish and GB passports an I only have a GB one. I know I can get residencia as a family member through him as we’re married. But I’ve had different opinions on the healthcare requirements. Do we both have to have private healthcare in place before going for residencia (not yet state pension age so can’t get it in form S1)? Also is there anything we need to do before leaving the UK like getting the marriage cert certified at all? All help gratefully received.

You both need health insurance, you need to get your marriage certificate apostilled, just remember it is only good for 3 months and you can't apply for residency until your husband has got his.

I thought that was the case. Thankyou very much indeed.

You can easily get a apostilled marriage certificate sent to Spain if you get caught by the 3 month limit on documents. We got ours sent from UK while here after I got my residency.

Kind regards

You have to get it legalised for use abroad and it has to be within 3 months of applying for residencia.

Hi Jane it is a Spanish legal requirement to have things neew, in Spain everything to do with paperwork only lasts 3 months.
Getting certificate apostilled just proves it's legal.

They can supply and apostille your certificate, we found it safer to get new certificate from them as post from Spain can take weeks.

Just to say that when I applied in Jaen for my residency, my apostilled marriage certificate was just out of date and they would not accept it.
