- 🟡🔵🟢 Emissions Stickers for Foreign Vehicles
Since we published last week's article about the new ZBE low emissions zones that are being rolled out in cities across Spain, we have received dozens of enquiries asking about how foreign vehicles will be affected. Here we answer those questions.
🚫 Can a foreign vehicle obtain a New Environmental Sticker?
No, a foreign vehicle cannot obtain a new environmental sticker, but some may still be able to drive their vehicle in one of the new low emissions zones…
🚘 Which foreign vehicles can drive in one of the new Low Emissions Zones?
If your vehicle already has an emissions sticker issued in it’s country of current registration then it may be able to be used in the new ZBE low emission zones, but you will need to check the corresponding Spanish emissions category for your vehicle.
🇪🇺 Which countries are accepted automatically?
EU countries whose emissions stickers are automatically accepted are Austria, Denmark, France and Germany, but again it’s necessary to look for the corresponding Spanish emissions sticker to match it up to. Please check out our infographic sticker guide to see the corresponding category for your vehicle:

🇬🇧 What about UK Vehicles?
At the time of writing, UK vehicles aren’t automatically accepted into ZBE, low emissions zones and will likely have to register within the municipality where they need to be used. The only current example of this is Barcelona whereby the owner of a foreign vehicle can register to use their vehicle. More info here:

🇪🇸 Taking Your Spanish Vehicle Abroad
If you plan on driving to another EU country with your Spanish registered vehicle, you should bear in mind that there are currently no reciprocal agreements with Spain whereby Spanish emissions stickers automatically permit you to drive in low emissions zones in other EU countries, so it’s best to check on the country’s specific rules before you set off.
🗓️ Latest Information
The new ZBE low emissions zones are fairly new to Spain and are being rolled out in larger cities and municipalities over the course of 2023. The rules are implemented by each municipality, under the broad framework of the DGT, so there is no one size fits all legislation. Consequently we recommend that you check in advance with any municipality that you are thinking of visiting. We will of course publish relevant updates as often as we can
