And it doesn’t start with continuing to to spread fear.
Having lived in Jewish communities in South Africa, I’m fairly certain you don’t really know what Kosher is. To allay your fears, Kosher has nothing to do with the way the animal is slaughtered; it means the meat is blessed by a Rabbi at time of slaughter. Kosher refers to all that food that can be consumed by those of the Jewish faith who are orthodox. It does not refer to the slaughtering of the food; Matzo crackers (yummmm) are Kosher. I can assure you they are not slaughtered .....
With regards the Chinese; it is only your own prejudice that assumes they will continue on “because that’s what they do, they are not like us” but if you apply the question I put in my original post “can I positively, truly know that for certain?” the answer is of course “NO” - of course you can’t know that. Like I say, your own prejudice leads you to believe that ... and spread that .,., but if you can’t know for certain it’s true, then #StopSpreadingTheFear .... you see what I mean?
In some way or another we most of us are guilty of this. We have a belief, we want others to conform with that belief because we fear an outcome .... and so we spread the fear. “It is still believed that some villages continue to throw a goat off a tower to bring a good harvest. It was last recorded a few years ago but COULD still be happening”.... but again, you don’t know that do you? It could just as easily NOT be happening. You’ve never actually witnessed it yourself .... it’s anecdotal - but unless you can say for 100% certain that you have witnessed this yourself, all your doing is spreading anecdotes. #StopSpreadingTheFear
Yes, we live in a country where bullfighting still occurs; but also a country where many places have now banned bullfighting. Bullfighting is a centuries old tradition and is ingrained in the eidos of the country; it will go, but it will be a generational change, not overnight. Asking Spaniards to put aside bullfighting is like telling Britons to give up pie chips, beer and football (and significantly more violence occurs with football) or stopping fox hunting in UK, which this government have allowed to resume.....
But we’ve chosen to live here. We cannot come to our host country and demand they now conform to our view of what constitutes right and wrong; that change may occur, but it must occur from within to imprint upon the people a new culture.
#StopSpreadingTheFear refers to our own prejudices as well; that the Chinese are inherently cruel to animals, that the Spanish love bullfighting and are cruel to animals, Moslems are terrorists etc etc - all these things are just prejudices, because we simply cannot apply them to every single person of that nationality or religion that we meet. People are people and change starts with putting aside our own ignorance and xenophobia
Blessed be.
