That is a question you’d need to ask of an abogado - but not one you use for house purchase!! They won’t have a clue and will likely tell you whatever you want to hear.

Beings it’s a criminal offence, I’d suggest you’d need to contact a lawyer who specializes in Criminal law.

I would have THOUGHT yes … because otherwise what is the point of introducing third-party liability for dog owners? BUT - you really need to check with someone who knows this law.

I’m not even certain where you’d purchase this insurance.  I’ll “make further enquiries” and update this post if I can find anything.

I would assume any personal liability insurance (covering injury or damage caused by your dog) would travel with the owner that travels with their pet. But may be worth checking your travel insurance too.

it all good on paper Dario but as usual they won't take any notice of it.  Shame about hunting dogs though they do need protection.

I agree with you Alicia, rural farmers and hunters wont take any notice and from experience if you do report the mistreatment of animals the Garda will do diddly squat, I am talking about rural area, I have no experience of living in a town.

Only in Spain.   What idiot thinks it’s ok to leave a dog unattended for 24 hours? Have they actually paid someone to sit behind a desk and come up with this? 24 hours is totally unacceptable, as is keeping a pet outside either overnight or in the daytime heat.  Dogs are family, treat...

... them as such or don’t get one, it really is that simple.

Well said

But like I said in my post - it’s up to US, to make it work, to get involved, to advise police.

Guardia have been hamstrung by not having laws that they can utilize properly.  This may not change that completely, but it’s a step in the right direction.

When speaking about GC, remember they have SEPRONA, a unit dedicated to animal welfare.

Spains attitudes are changing, as evidenced by the introduction of these laws; but culture change won’t happen overnight and it would be wrong to point the finger at authorities and complain they are not doing anything if no-one is giving them the information they need to act.

Sorry if this has been answered in the comments, I only scanned through but what's the process here then?

Do I need to get my dogs to the vet to obtain some sort of certificate to clarify breed specifics and vaccination status) and then take that to whomever I use for insurance (I intend to use my bank) or will their chip certificates and vaccination booklets suffice? (I read the amount will be dependent on breed, size, strength etc.

Do I need to complete the online course before I can set up the insurance?

Have they clarified the process?

The rest all seems like common sense for good pet owners anyway.

I ran out of fingers to count the times a rang Seprona, they either dont answer the phone, it just rings out, or they dont speak english, and then when I got a spanish friend to ring, they did nothing. so I am not holding my breath with regard to this new law, Spain is excellent at passing new laws, but then they dont up hold them.

There you have it from Jenny - Judge, Jury and Executioner. In other words take no action and nothing will happen. But, if the authorities don't know what's happening you can be guaranteed that there will be no response. Report a matter and at least it's reported. These so called animal lovers want no interference from good people. They have been getting away with their bad habits for years. If one of their dogs savaged an innocent child, they would defend the dog - this  has been my experience in Mojacar. Worse again they'll say that dog just strayed into my property some time ago and the dog is not mine. With the new laws they will no longer be able to hide or avoid. Come up with something better Jenni!
