Devo makes a good point on how the EU should outlaw such activity. But, Dario rightly says that it is up to the soverign government to act on such laws in its own country. Why wait for a government to act?  Usually, the process is challenged along the way and likely nothing ever gets done. We have hare coursing in Ireland. The laws governing coursing have changed since the 1970's when hares were more often killed than not during each event. Today our coursing demands that the greyhounds wear muzzles and the frightened-out-of-their-wits hares survive every time but probably with some kind of psychiatric problems. The hares are supposed to be released to the wild after each meeting, but in practice does this happen? Nobody knows. Furthermore, non performing greyhounds find themselves on an express route to the knackers too to save expense. It's all about the money.

But, hare coursing in Ireland is dying a slow death. Lack of sponsors, lack of support, lack of the will to make a meeting worthwhile etc have ensured that one of these days soon there will be no hare coursing, of that there is no doubt.

We used to have an abundance of hares here on pevensey marshes and a joy to watch them charging about and boxing each other . The mad March hares . Also when we topped the fields we left large areas untouched so as they had cover . Unfortunately a big traveller community were settled on the outskirts of the local town and within a few years no more hares. Daft as it may sound the actual bullfighting doesn’t bother me anything like that horrendous video of that bull with rags on fire around it’s horns and legs caught up in wire. Surely that practice can be outlawed ? How can that be lawful . I’ve changed my profile back to my original with flint and the cattle. They are happy boys and girls.

it all good on paper Dario but as usual they won't take any notice of it.  Shame about hunting dogs though they do need protection.

I so agree with the fact that hunting dogs should have some form of protection...... also the working dogs left without food.....(old goat man by us hardly ever lets the goats out, and the dogs are ignored..... local people feed them!)

These laws are enforceable and unfortunately for the wrong reasons. So you have a dog or cat and you want to hand them on or breed from them or just love them til they die. You must be registered/licensed and show a paper trail from their birth to their death and aftedeath. With technology improv...

...ing this is a nice little earner at little outlay for the authorities.

Once again a big thanks to the people who created this unnecessary situation and all because they refuse to clean up dog poo and insist on treating animals like humans bringing them into restaurants etc. Thanks Guys!

I wish it was just about God Poo!   It’s more about Cruelty in my view

My friend found a kitten yesterday in a bin. It is now fighting for it's life on a drip at the vet's.

How would this new law make any difference in this situation and fine the unspeakable scumbag who threw a life away?

Just one of the Many things I hate about Spain

I just hope the liability only insurance doesn't extend to all types of medical cover. That's a slippery slope towards vets becoming unaffordable, as evidenced in the UK.

Absolutely

I'm not surprised to see a post like this regarding unforgivable behaviour of many animal owners. Like I said earlier, everybody I know in Mojacar has a dog or a cat or multiples of each. Animals need lots of care but some don't see this. The new laws would come against such antics by the owner. ...

...And like cgd said veterinary bills will get more expensive progressively in future.

I wish some people would think carefully before giving or receiving pets as presents. Near where I live in Ireland I see dogs and cats being dumped from cars from mid to late January each year. A dog or cat is not just for Christmas.

Have a look at the facebook equivalent of this forum - a poster there wants a section of beach in Mojacar for dog use and moans about the carbon footprint bringing dogs elsewhere by car. Likely the same person brings dogs to the Mojacar beaches every day anyway without care or even on a lead. Even the picture on the post shows a dog unmuzzled which should by law be muzzled while in public.

If you can't care for an animal don't have one and most of the excuses I see are vomit inducing.

Where can I find this post on fb please

Id buy the land as he will only go and get more dogs. I feel awful for you but I always go to a property i’m thinking of buying at All hours and days, and talk to neighbours as if i’m just passing.  Once a guy said ,of what I thought was a nice area that I didn’t know anything about ,   it’s Hell.  lol.      i hope it works out for you.
