Thanks Alan, does it also provide WiFi or only devices that have a wired connection? Who is the provider?

Hi,

In the main Español is by far the predominant language in the town, it would certainly be worth learning at the very least some basics. In general the towns folk are welcoming, but certainly appreciate your attempts at picking up the language.

There are a number of Supermercados in the town itself, downtown is a Spar, up near the top, Tabernas is built on a hillside, not too steep, there is a Consum and an El Dìa Supermercado. There are others, Coviran and some smaller outlets. A couple of hardware/ builders suppliers.

An absolute multitude of Tapas Bars & Restaurants in the town & surrounding areas.

A Theatre, quire rare in small Spanish towns and of course the Western Film locations open to the public. A Pharmacy, a Library etc

Temps can vary quite a lot, mid to high 30’s in the summer daytime and 15 to 20 at night. Autumn, Winter & Spring can reach 20’s daytime and getting towards 3 at night. Not normally that cold though. This year has seen a lot of rain, more the exception than the rule. It can get windy sometimes.

I have fibre @ 600mb with Telitec, no issues really, the odd occasion it has gone down, I guess as can happen anywhere. I cannot comment on availability outside the town itself

Regarding any works of any sort in one’s home. Spain has various restrictions and permits. I would advise checking out “Abras Mejor” & Abras Menor” doc’s on the Tabernas Ayuntamiento webpage. Mejor is more or less construction alterations & Menor applies to a myriad of property works, installing new windows, probably even new kitchens & bathrooms etc. I would not worry too much about that if you do any extensive works you should get quotations and get advice/guidance from an Architect who would submit the doc’s to the Ayuntamiento/Town Hall for approval

Hope that helps

Alan D

This is super helpful! I found this place as well by chance and bought a small property there! Looking forward to moving and starting the renovations! I am happy to see that there is a big community of English speakers as my Spanish is not that advanced!

I'm so excited to be there soon and probably meet some of you along! :)

Cheers!

Yes that is really helpful, thanks so much. What is the internet like outside of the village? Are you able to get fixed line broadband? What kind of speeds can you get and is it reliable (i.e. is the connection consistent)?

Do you speak Spanish or have you managed to get by without it?

If you're intending to live in Spain, please PLEASE learn to speak ( at least some!) Spanish.
