Hi everyone, I am currently living in the UK and thinking about moving to Spain. One of the areas of potential interest is Tabernas. I had a few questions I was hoping to get some advice on from people who actually live there or have experience of the town/surrounding area:

- What is it like living in/around Tabernas for someone from the UK? Is it difficult if you don't speak Spanish?

- How many supermarkets are in the town? Do you find that they are of adequate size or do you have to drive to a larger town/city like Almeria to get your groceries?

- What are the temperature highs and lows in winter? What are the highs and lows in summer?

- Is it possible to get fixed line fibre broadband if you live near Tabernas e.g. a few kms outside the town? Or can you only get wifi? What speeds are possible?

- I understand that Spain doesn't have permitted development rules like we do in the UK. If you have a garden, is it possible to e.g. install a garden shed without needing planning permission or do you have to go through a planning permission process? Or are you just not allowed to do stuff like that?

Many thanks in advance for any advice!

Could you try reposting? If I understand it correctly, the lows are around 3C in winter? That is quite a bit colder than I assumed it would be.. And the highs are around 30C in summer? That is lower than I thought..

Google historical temperatures in Tabernas, hopefully you’ll get the same page.

Historical averages means very little. In Sorbas (25km) we can have 2-3c overnight in jan/Feb but once sun is out it is not uncommon to have 20-25c. Last year we were in the pool in January. Highest temp I have recorded was 42, but felt temp depends largely on humidity. Tabernas is in the desert, hence much drier than the coast.

Hopefully others can help with other questions

Thanks, that is helpful, I saw the historical numbers but I find asking people who actually live in an area to be a better guide than weather sites.

Why are thinking Tabernas?

I am looking for somewhere that is quiet with not too many tourists, and warm weather. I would need internet access though (which is why I asked about it specifically) and not too far to travel for everyday items like groceries (hence the supermarket question). Tabernas seemed like somewhere that might fit what I'm looking for so wanted to ask for advice from people actually living there/near there.

Hi.i live 5 mins outside the village and have been here 4 years. There are 2 quite large supermarkets in the village one bring Dia,and the other picomart, both have every thing for day to day life.there is also a number of smaller general shops and plenty of specialist places,ie bakers.the Chinese shop which sell every thing.and the petrol station, which in my opinion has the best bread.temps in july/August, and early September can reach 40c.wintertime ie late December January February and March can be chilly st night but warm up once the sun is up.Almerua city is 30mins away by car and has all major supermarkets..hope this helps

Yes that is really helpful, thanks so much. What is the internet like outside of the village? Are you able to get fixed line broadband? What kind of speeds can you get and is it reliable (i.e. is the connection consistent)?

Do you speak Spanish or have you managed to get by without it?
