Hello to you.  I have done that.   Drove to Santander on ferry and go.    The problem is that in England there are Cameras everywhere and they will note your number plate and a fine on the door step.   So what I would do is that you have insurance.   Get the insurance company to collect from docks and deliver to your home.   Tell them that it has a problem with the Back Axle.  and you can not drive.    That way NO FINE.   I had a guy in a garage that would do the M O T and put on the UK Data Base He charged me £150.00  Once you have the MOT you can TAX car from your mobile online.       Terry

You have to make an appointment for the mot before you go and have the paperwork to show at customs
