Hello again.
We have good neighbours from Belgium and have met some friendly, interesting people of different nationalities, not only English.
Seems to be a diverse mix.

Have used the road a great deal. I think I’m an average driver and don’t see the road as an issue. Treat it with the respect it requires and you won’t have a problem.
Oh and yea, love Cabrera
Ask about issues with the infrastructure at Cabrera. This has been ongoing for a great many years and although many residents say it isn't a problem, always consider whether it might be in future if you decided or needed to sell. Also consider that whilst you are fit, mobile and active ( and presumably car drivers) that may not always be the case in the future - bear in mind that there is no public transport service up to Cabrera. If you are exploring the local area I'd suggest to look at nearby Bedar. It has the mountain landscape but also has shops, restaurants, bank , doctor etc. there are some stunning properties both in the village itself and in the mountains surrounding it. Bedar has a bus service ( albeit limited, but it has one) down to Los Gallardos. There's a small weekly market. It's definitely worth giving it a look to get a comparison to Cabrera.

Thanks for the advice. Bedar has been mentioned by others on this thread so it’s clearly a popular option!
We’re coming over next week to look at a few properties so may well add Bedar to our list.
Some of the properties in Sierra Cabrera look great but its lack of facilities is a concern for us.
One thing we’ve noticed re the properties in Bedar is that some of the plots are enormous which puts us off as we really don’t have the inclination to maintain huge gardens.
I assume you live in Bedar?

Hi, although I live in Mojacar, one of my properties is in Bedar, yes; it´s rented out to short and long term guests. Prior to that I lived in Serena (the next village up) so I´ve been in the area for many years.
What you will see when you get here is that when estate agents talk about plots of land, in the mountain areas (such as Bedar, Cabrera etc) although the square metres will sound enormous, it´s not horizontal land - it´s literally the mountainside (so diagonal or, in places, vertical!). Villas in both places do have gardens but they are entirely manageable. When looking to expand my portfolio of properties here, I visited several in Cabrera. I opted for Bedar for all the reasons I and others have mentioned (infrastructure issues, accessibility, facilities in the immediate area etc.). At the end of the day we are all looking for a place which ticks our personal wish lists and yours may be very different to that of others.
Just remember, it´s very important to bear in mind that calling a place "my forever home", as many do, is usually unrealistic and shortsighted. As we age our circumstances change and this impacts on our needs. What may seem ideal now might, in 10 years time, be unmanageable or inconvenient to your future needs. Best of luck in your search.
