If you have any doubts about drinking the local water maybe look into getting a filtration system installed. Prices will vary and suppliers are numerous.

As was pointed out many Spaniards buy bottled water but they may also live where the water supply is high in mineral content making the water taste manky. I know one family that even use bottle water for cooking. I used local water for a few months and noticed a tang off of the water but figured ...

...I would get used to it. This was until one morning I looked into the kettle and seen the amount of sediment on the bottom from the minerals in the water.

There is also the question of supply regularity I  got exasperated some mornings going to make a coffee and finding there was no water in the taps it does not happen often but the water companies or local concils will cut off the supply, without any warning. This is while they are working on either the roads or pipes. So having a supply to hand is, imho, a neccessity in Spain.

Then there is the envirometnal inpact of all that plastic don't get me wrong I am not the tree hugging type  but I recycle everything.

But some do not. I have seen many people also just dump the plastic in the general bins. Where i live there are a general garbage bins everywhere but as for plastics and paper bins there seems to be no rhyme of reason for thier placement. You will see a general bin and maybe a bottle one or an oil one together. It is rare around here to see them all in one spot. So if you do not have a car , or just couldn't be ar**d,  to bring them to the correct ones I guess throwing into the general is better than just dumping it.

So the recycle rational for buying plastic bottles water doesn't hold water.

It also gets to me when they don’t crush the big plastic bottles it only takes a second it makes more room in the bin

Seems I opened a hornets nest ... I think this has diverted from the OP question of drinkability of tap water . The answer is yes, and if that's not a good enough answer, ask the ayuntamiento or water authorities. The taste of water is something different.  It is entirely up to anyone to dri...

...nk it or not

As a sidenote , when working in a different country I came across the source of the water for our water fountain (tower) in our office, it was being tapped from a little room in a neighbouring cellar in the middle of the city. Pure council water .....

It's ok if you like the taste. We use the water in the taps for cooking, but we have water filters fitted.

We live just outside San Juan and have drunk the tap water for 3 years with no issues.

As the water can be warm most the year we fill 2 or 3 bottles and chill it in the fridge and rotate them each day.

We always keep a couple of large supermarket bottles as well, but we only ever use them if the main water supply is off.

So yes, it's fine to drink, but it's everyone's personal choice.

Why are you so upset that others drink regulated water? Do you know where your bottled water actually is tapped? Nice label, anyone can make one. See my previous post, from a regulated country (sorry not Peckham 😊)

What is your problem I am not upset it’s up to you what you drink, I have not a problem with what you drink, I am not getting into a argument with you over something so trivial, thanks for the discussion.

You are right it is safe to drink you do the right thing by having a filter fitted, I have a filter fitted we only use it for washing vegetables and boiling the kettle for tea, when we have used none filtered water the tea taste horrible we like a good cup off Yorkshire tea, if we are having a orange drinking Robinson etc we use bottled water mostly in the summer. Mainly because it taste better
