Anyone moved from the uk to spain yet in 2021 . We’re looking for a removals company to move us . Also, did anyone have to pay the taxes on the goods ?

Yes you will have to pay import duty. I have a friend just returned from UK (a must visit mother passed away) she sent her suitcase back via a transport company, and guess wot, she had to pay duty on her own clothes. and before anyone asks, I asked her why she didn't just take the case on the plane, no duty, she said it seem like a good idea at the time not having to lug a suitcase about.

So my advice would be send over as little as possible, you can buy everything here, so no need to import anything really.

Hi Jenny

Absolutely crazy . My wife has a full wardrobe ! What situation has Brexit created . Any idea how they base their costs . For example, a settee costing 1000 what is 3 years old , probably someone would pay 150 for ? Same for everything. Including clothes ?

Sorry no idea of cost, she is waiting for her clothes to arrive and then she will get the bill. I was told by a transporter last week, that just for the paper alone the paper work cost £150-£300, Before the UK entered the EU I can remember (yes I am that old) we use to have to do a declaration of everything that we were bringing into Spain, and we were then charged accordingly to the value of the goods, Spot checks were done at the customs, to make sure people weren;t trying to cheat and it could take 3 months or more to see your goods again. If they go back to that system, well, better to sell everything and start again when you get here.Good luck

If duty is now going to be charged when you send over your luggage in this way it’s going to cause issues for the companies who do this work.  The extra cost to the customer won’t make these movements commercially viable.
