Not true If you contract for the right supply.

I think that the average apartment or 3 bed room villa is certainly not wired for appliances such as a British electric cooker.  The higher the 'potencia' the more you pay  - and with a difference!  The electricity bills for my fairly large cortijo are roughly the same as a 45 square metre apartment which we own and only use occasionally because in the apartment we have more 'potencia' contracted just because of a single air conditioning unit.!

I don't know of anyone who has a British cooker here and I agree with KD Kitchens that  nowadays it just isn't worth paying to bring large electrical goods over here.  The guarantees would not be covered either.

Juanida, I can assure you that most modern (last 15 years) 3 bed villa or apartment are wired adequately for UK appliances including cookers. Most built in ovens that you buy in the UK now are a much lower wattage than they used to be in fact most built in fan assisted oven with a built in grill come fitted with a 13 Amp plug as they generally run at under 3 KW.

The only exception to that is, don't bring a built in double oven or the old style free standing electric cookers out from the UK unless you are prepared to contract to a higher potencia and rewire the cooker circuit in your new Spanish home.

Actually a lot of ovens have actually returned to hard wired , my main supplier used to be howdens but I’ve seen many others , it come with just the cables and a warning sticker , of do not attach plug . all my electrical work was carried out by electrician I’d been using for years so ,never really looked into why they changed but it was a higher output ,

I’d say that was starting around 2015 I think it was

Thanks for the information.  I have lived here considerably longer than than 15 years and always had a wired in cooker in the UK.  The sort of oven I would like to have here (a double oven) I would not be able to have here.

When I lived in the UK in my last move (1986), I had to buy new white goods and made the big mistake of buying a Zanussi oven which had the grill element inside the oven just like the ones in Spain.  I soon realised that I should never again buy something so important based on attractive appearance alone!

I suppose it depends if there is a grill

You probably know this already but just in case you don't, British cookers won't work here either.  This is because amount of electricity contracted by the average flat or house is a lot less than in the UK.  I particularly miss having a good grill as I really like Welsh rarebit or...

... cheese on toast from time to time.  You just can't do the same in Spanish ovens!  An alternative is  to buy a small worktop oven/grill or an electric sandwich  toaster if you have the space for gadgets.

Another point is you may find that over here, a 3000 watt kettle trips the electricity here when the oven is in use or other high wattage item is being used.  Over here, Amazon sells 2500 watt kettles which in the UK are not easy to find nowadays.   Another good idea is to bring electric blankets if you use them as believe me, in the winter they can be very necessary here!

A gas oven does cheese on toast perfectly

Then you have to give up space for a gas bottle unfortunately.

If it’s possible , it’s a great option though.  I’ve got mine sitting outside and gas pipe through the wall.

I've got a bottle housed outside for the water heater.  A gas hob would have been nice when there are electricity cuts - and for roasting peppers, but I prefer a electric oven.  A gas one

might do nice cheese on toast but again, it's a choice of grill or oven and you can't have the two working at the same time indepentantly with the cookers here.
