Hi Guys

We are considering relocating to Oria from the uk

we want to travel with our dog from uk to Oria, could someone tell me how easy it might be to travel direct via road, it appears we can get a ferry from plymouth to Santadare?(reading through threads on here)  although i cant work out if we can bring pets ,or would it be better to go via Le shuttle to Calais then drive into spain, what would we require to travel  with our dog?  he is booked in to get Rabies and booster jabs in the next week, and has a passport,  would we need to book a return ticket?  on Le shuttle as i cant further without ticking a return ticket option, we intend to move permanently to the oria area once we find a home to purchase and look forward to meeting some of you

Many Thanks in advance

A lot depends on your date of travel,pre/post Brexit for the pet passport system which still has not been clarified yet.

Brittany Ferries have doggy kennels on both routes to Spain and some 'pet friendly cabins,

the top deck has a dedicated pet walking area during the crossing so you can visit/walk as you want

on the route down there are pet friendly hotels for an overnight stay if you need to

ok many thanks, we are now wondering if it might be better and less stressful to just cage him and fly, which will cut the travel time we will speak to the vet to see if there is somthing we can give him to make it less stressful for him,

Kind Regards

Pete

Hi

We too are relocating to oria  from the U.K. with a dog! We live close to Portsmouth so my plan was to take the Santander or Bilbao ferry but these ferries get booked up very early (For dog friendly cabins) so I’ve had to change my plans. Now I’m going portsmouth/ Caen and driving across France and Spain.

I’m doing it over three nights but it probably could be done in two if you pushed it.

An alternative if it’s a small dog is to catch an Iberia Express plane to Madrid and hire a car from there.

Where are you located in the UK?

All the best.

Hi Andy

we are in cambridgshire, and not sure if we will take our car or sell it before we go, we have an appointment with Shaun Garner (sun sea selling houses) in September so will discuss options with him, im still thinking fly from Stansted then just hire a car for a month or so while we get settled, we like the look of Oria so good luck with your move and many thanks for your helpful reply

No problem and good luck. One thing I should mention if you havent discovered it yet is second hand cars in Spain are very expensive! It may be worth considering bringing yours.

We know the area quite well as we’ve had an apartment near Mojacar for five years so if we can help at all please shout.

For confirmation the equivalent to auto trader in the Spain is coches.net.

Hi

We drove from Poole to Vicar and stopped one night in Pamplona. We have our dog and stopped every 4 hours to let her out for a toilet break. It was a bit of a slog but it’s a pretty easy drive. Good lu

I hear some people manage it with one overnight stay and I’ve also heard if couples who have driven over night in relays (one drives and one sleeps). I like my bed too much for that! I guess it depends how much time you have.

I’ve just booked and found dog friendly hotels quite easy to find although they tend to charge and extra 10 euros For the dog. Andy
