Android boxes receive their information through the internet and usually provide TV through an app, an android box also allows you to access BBC iPlayer and other UK TV services if used through a VPN. If it is coming through the satellite then it will not be android. Humax do Android and Satellite systems and hybrid boxes but I have no experience of them. Personally I use Amazon Firesticks and a Fire TV Cube for TV, I also have a T95Z android box but no longer use it as I don't need it. I'm told that the new Google Assistant with TV is also very good. I pay about £110 a year for my access but that allows me to have two instantaneous connections, video on demand, series link and catch up.

Jimh - if you dont mind me asking a few questions

is it your broadband package that costs £110 / year,  does that have any caps on usage , what is the speed of your internet connection and who is the supplier?

Where do you get your system from and is it normal tv.

I have a package on my firestick but it is various apps and have tried this a few times finding both rubbish.

I am currently in Ireland and I am using it through my internet supplier here, but as I use Amazon Fire sticks I have used it in France, Sweden, Spain and any hotel I have stopped in where I could plug the firestick into the TV using Hotel internet. In France last year I used it for 3 months using a MiFi on the 4g telephone internet without issue. Their basic package of one connection is £70 a year, I pay extra for a second connection and the VPN which allows me to use BBC iPlayer/ITV Hub/All4/My5/UKTV Play etc and to watch on two tv's. It has a huge library of movies and the latest series as well as all the channels you could want and most channels have a catch up facility.

There are minimum internet speeds below which it will buffer but they usually offer channels in FHD/HD and SD and SD has low bandwidth requirements but the resolution is obviously not as sharp. I've been with them for a couple of years and the support is good and the downtime is minimal - it's available +99% of the time.

There are no caps on usage. It does work through an app, they have 3 or 4 different apps and they have slightly different features, I could use a single app but personally I find  one of the apps has a better TV guide and I use that for TV and catch up but I use another app for the movies and series because it is easier to see which episodes you have watched and the stop/start/fast forward/rewind etc but that's personal preference

so while you are in spain you use your mobile phones data connection ie tethering/ hotspot ?

I cant understand how your internet supplier in Ireland can give you internet in spain unless its via a mobile phone contract

I haven’t used it in Spain - I’ve used it on a 4g sim via a 4g modem in France for over 3 months and on home and hotel WiFi without problem. It will work on home broadband or connected wirelessly to a phone as a hotspot or on a 4g modem. I buy 100gb a month when in France for €14.99 and that covers my needs with 3 hours tv a day plus radio/Facebook and browsing for two of us

I have an android box is this different to the one you have.  Who set up you sat dish?

Just a note - Humax have stopped making/supplying Freesat boxes.  They are now only supplying Freetime boxes which are totally different. We have a Humax Freesat box and it is excellent.  Contacted them recently and that was their reply.  HOWEVER, you can buy a Freesat  box of Amazon.es. Excellent box.  You can record up to 4 channels at once - BUT don’t let this influence you - the satellite signal in Spain may not be strong enough to record 4 programs, but will probably record up to 2 ok as does my Freesat box.  The very large dish required can cost up to €750 to buy unless you buy a second hand one.  You need the very large dish in this part of Spain to receive the signal.  Look on the Facebook Marketplace.  Always second hand dishes on it.  Hope this all helps.

I just want something that works in Spain that does not buffer or cut out.  I am not having much luck at the moment.  I had a good system on a mag box but the company are no longer using mag boxes so I transferred the system to a fire Stick and it is rubbish. So I am still looking

I've never had any problems with my supplier, I use Firesticks and I have a Fire TV box (no difference but a little quicker). I am not not up with their pricing as I go for the annual multi connection with access to the VPN for BBC iPlayer etc. I do know their single connection is £70 per year but they have Monthly/Quarterly plans and a short trial as far as I know so you could try it out.

PM me if you are interested, I am only a user but I could try and put you on to them.

I know they had issues with MAG boxes but I think they have resolved this, I know they can also work directly on the latest Smart TV's - If you get the single connection you can still install it on multiple devices as long as only one is in use at a time.
