Hi. I understand I can submit a residence application electronically and that I need to provide certain documentation. I’m confused as to what type of healthcare is required and would appreciate anyone helping me who has knowledge of this. Do I need to have a separate private Spanish healthcare cover set up in Spain or will my UK private health cover be enough? I could add European travel cover to it, or I currently get Worldwide travel cover free with my bank. My main residence will still be in the UK. I just want to be able to stay longer than 90 days!
Thanks if anyone can clarify for me.

as i understand it you are a resident of Spain and therefore will need health cover for Spain so uk cover would not cover you.  you may consider the UK property as your main residence but to get residency you will need to spend 183 days here and therefore you become a tax payer here with all the consequencies and you must declare your Uk property as an assett every year.  also you may find that the insurance from your bank will be invalid because you are no longer a resident in the UK. it's not as easy as that.  if you want to go down the residency route you need to consider a lot more than how many days you want to stay in Spain.

I can state that UK health insurance will definitely not be accepted for Residency.  I know of someone who did just that and was turned down.  Healthcare must be Spanish based and residency-compliant.

With regards application, yes, your initial application can be submitted electronically.  It must be submitted though by a holder of a digital signature that is registered with Extranjeria - i.e. you can’t do it yourself.  That is just the initial application; if/when you receive a positive resolution you are then obliged to attend Oficina de Extranjeria or CNP station (depending on region you move to) in person.

Prior to residency application, as well as health insurance, you must also be registered on the Padrón, i.e. living in Spain.

This is of course only good for another 25 days. After that, completely and totally different system which will require you to first apply for a visa to migrate from the Embassy in UK (unless you are on Irish passport, in which case, nothing changes)

Thanks Dario. I noted some advice you gave to someone else asking about residency which was really helpful too. I am registered on the Padron but I think I’ve left it too late to do anything now as I can’t come over there anyway. I only want the stay in Spain for 183 days in six months. Hopefully there will be another way round it later on. Thanks again for your time to answer.
