Hello All, we are a retired English couple who were going to buy a villa in Spain to spend about six months of the UK winter.

We are both retired with UK pensions but it appears we can only spend 90 days in Spain and cannot return until another 90 days have elapsed, after the end od 2020.   Is this correct?

We did consider Spanish residency, but it appears we lose access to the NHS then - my wife is waiting for a knee operation.   Is this the case?

that is so 90 days in every 180 and if you spend 183 you are then considered a tax resident of Spain.  if you did take residency before the end of 2020 as pensioners you could claim Spanish health care and your wife may get her operation in Spain instead of the UK.  but of course you are then not in the NHS system it's a catch 22 choice.  some people say that the service in Spain is better than UK but of course there is the language barrier.  with Covid at the moment all countries are falling behind in the operations and have long waiting lists.  why not just rent a place for the times that you want to spend in Spain and keep the place in the queue in the UK for her op.

Wise words from Alicia, rent for when you want, move where you want, keep your money free to enjoy,if the 'boiler' breaks down the landlord fixes it etc, noisy neighbours move in next door simple rent elsehwere.

I was thinking of buying again but for the short periods I spend there normally 3 months it did not make financial sense
