This post that was quoted has been deleted.

for heating we have either a calor gas fire which is probably the best and very cheap to run , or we have 2 halogen electric heaters or you can reverse the AC to hot  as it is cold in the winter in the house as Spain is not geared up for the cold, ie no carpets, insulation or wall paper only for a coup`le of months max then back to normal

Thanks Shay - really good advice.

As far as I am aware the solicitor is resolving all the utility connections etc as part of their service.  No idea who the utilities providers will be but I did see somewhere else that there is a comparison service and it might be that we need to jump on that as soon as we know what consumpt...

...ion might be.

I will budget top end in the hope of being pleasantly surprised!

Si Compare is the price comparison service I recently used. They are on Facebook and the contact name is a guy called James. You send them the last bill for the property and they search for better deals.  I've recently used them to change from Endesa to Fortaluz.  Interestingly,  since the changeover  Endesa have been literally bombarding me with calls offering "a better rate" to return to them. I politely pointed out that, as a longstanding client, if they wanted to keep my business surely they should be offering me the best rate anyway and their action now I've left is akin to shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted (fun explaining that phrase in Spanish). I've also told them that I may consider returning to them but only on a specially advantageous package - which they are now working out, so we shall see. As other people have commented,  individual usage varies and can be considerably affected in summer if you have air-con ( I live on the playa but don't have air-con as for me  it's not necessary. I prefer a through breeze of natural air and the orientation of my house keeps it cool inside anyway). I suggest that, if you go ahead with a purchase, you need to run a while with your existing supplier to see how your consumption goes then take things from there. Best wishes and good luck with your purchase.

Brilliant advice Susi!

Hopefully complete next week and will give it a quarter and then review costs and consider a switch as necessary.

we use fenenegia and to our surprise this years summer bill is €124 compared to €147 for last years same amount of usage probably more due to heat this year. so very happy with that.
