There is an information desk at Alicante airport and I'm sure they speak english. There are regular buses to the centre from the airport and when you get off at the bus station there is at least one small inexpensive hotel right in the vicinity if your Almeria bus is a morning one. I did this many years back and the bus used to stop at Vera bus station where I had to get a lift to Mojacar. Don't know if it goes right to Mojacar now but there are taxis.

Thank you for that information. I will check it out on Google.
My partner is travelling the other way round. She is going from Mojacar to Alicante Airport. She will board the bus in Mojacar, and go to Murcia and then catch the bus from there to Alicante Airport. There are several buses a day. We found this journey online searching bus routes. Exclusive Travel have a shuttle bus from Alicante to Mojacar and other stops which leaves the airport at 12.30 the latest. The return to Alicante airport leaves at 6.30 am which for a late night flight is quite early.

So the options really are:
- Fly from Newcastle to an inconvenient Spanish airport and take public transport, which OP is looking to do
- Take public transport to an inconvenient UK airport (i.e train to Gatwick) and fly to Almeria
- Make a multi-legged flight (i.e. Newcastle / Heathrow / Madrid / Almeria) and make it easier at both ends.
The first choice is easier than you think and the transport and possible overnight accommodation much cheaper than in the UK.
If you hire a car at Alicante it's definitely the easiest bet unless you are worried about driving in Spain. It's much easier than the UK, actually.
And if connections are really very difficult, and you don't want to spend a night in a hotel, fly to Madrid and take the bus overnight to Mojacar from estación sur

We fly to Madrid with Ryanair from Manchester then on to Almeria with a spanish airline. It’s easy to book with Skyscanner and not expensive
It’s worth a look
