Though strangely Spain and Italy are the only two EU countries creating this problem. So much for united action.

Oh and of course we have allowed Spanish residents in the UK to exchange their licenses.

Yes UK allowed Spanish to exchange, and Spain allowed the British to do the same.... just that the people here were like ostriches and put their heads in the sand expecting they would be treated differently.....

No.    People are having a moan at the system, which they were aware of months ago.... Holiday makers will be fine as will those just staying for short breaks. You are permitted to have a translator in the car when you do sit your test.... so no problems really!

Yes i understand that but i just didnt want the stress of tests etc as re-locating will be stressful.enough so i may have to look at areas with transport&get an electric bike. Not the end of world if cant drive just will have to have a re-think

Not everyone was here and had residencia before the cut off date. Depending on where you live and take your test takes soooo much time not just your 6 months post residencia!!

I hope others members are in agreement with what this site is about ‘BEING HELPFUL to other members!!!!…..Please people here!!!! if you can’t be helpful to other site users it would be better to say nothing. This is not the place to be nasty or rude. So go do that somewhere else please or find something worthwhile to do rather than bite at new expats who genuinely ask for advise and not a kick up the Axxxxrse!

It seems NannieH has got their nickers in a twist. With regards to myself I only completed on my property last week and don't intend to retire to it for 4 years, so the issue of a driving licence isn't important to me at the present time. I was just making enquiries. I couldn't actually find anyone who was moaning apart from NannieH

Are you saying if moving to spain you can buy a permit to drive in spain without test etc or is that just for going on holiday?

Nope only tourists can drive on UK licence now,for 90 days anyway, lol.

Residents have now got to resit there tests,if you never exchanged your licence WELL in time before the dead line..you all new it was coming.

We, like many British people who moved to Spain to retire post Brexit, were hoping for a resolution to this, that the talks between both governments would end with a simple exchange of licences. Does anyone know who we can write to, to make our voices heard. Its not just taking the test, its the minimum of 10 lessons, theory and then the test it's going to take quite some time to do this. In the mean time legally we cannot drive which leaves many very vulnerable, re. medical, hospital and other important/urgent appointments.

Oh Lottie ....get a grip sweetie.... I was not moaning.!... I was stating facts. If you lived here you would be fed up with people .... many of whom have been here for years.... saying 'We don't need to change our licence, we are British and the government will sort it out''..... You can take your test with a translator in the back of the car when you finally come to live here..... by then the 'rush' will be over and you will get an appointment within the 90 days.
