I'm still waiting for my Irish Citizenship application to approved - It's been 14 months now. Even if it approved I cannot get an Irish Passport as the Passport Office is not taking applications due to Covid and trying to restrict travel

Just a point of information on the problems of getting an Irish passport.  I'm one of the lucky one - my father was Irish and I applied for my passport in 2014 when Cameron announced he was going to call a referendum, as I thought there might be problems down the line.  As the daughter of an Irishman born in Ireland, I got my passport in 6 weeks.  My son, who has lived in Spain since 2015 and has residence here, applied for his passport last year.  First he has to be recognised as an Irish citizen, and once that has happened he can get his passport - though even that can now take a while.  Unfortunately after more than a year of waiting, he chased up again only to be told that the office dealing with the registration of citizens (in his case grandchild of someone who is Irish) has been shut down for the time being and they don't know when it will reopen.  Of course he may have been given duff information, but it sounds about right in these times.

The citizenship office is still working processing applications but at a slower rate, the passport office is closed and therefore no passports are being issued, in January a temporary arrangement was put in place to allow applicants citizenship but there is a huge backlog. I was informed that my application was with the Minister for decision in September 2020 but I'm still waiting

Aah - may be that my son called before Christmas.  But there's still no rapid solution in sight
