Hi sue!

Firstly congratulations on your new venture! 😁 Sounds wonderful!

My partner and I have just purchased a property in Vera, initially just as a holiday home but with the intention of living permanently at some point in the near future.

We will be over in July/August, guidelines permitting and will be visiting your area and like you would like to start making friends, nothing like sharing your experiences with others! So if you fancy meeting up one day, if you've moved over by then, we would love to pop along and say hi!

Wishing you all the best with your move, I'm sure it will be the best thing you've ever done.

Take care

Sally

Hi Alicia thanks for getting back to me. How have you lived in Mojacar were you nervous before you made the move I'm trying to figure out why I'm feeling this way and if it's normal

we have lived here now for about 2 years before that we were in Arboleas for 14 years, we spent so much time travelling to Mojacar and Garrucha we decided we would be better off moving.  We also didn't want to have a garden and our own pool to worry about and wanted the opportunity to travel further.  Then Covid came and we have been far happier in lockdown here than I feel we would have been stuck in a villa.   We have neighbours of all nations and they come and go which makes life interesting when we can we go out and about and do what we want we don't worry about having any regular friends as we like to be solitary.  but we do like people watching and this is the place to do that.  We watch the green bowlers from our balcony and that looks like a friendly thing to do if you are interested.

do you think after the wearing of masks is over there will be an abundance of fabric masks used to make colourful quilts to remind us what we all went through?

We could do that but I wouldn't be surprised if everyone wants to burn them instead!

My personal opinion, for what its worth, is that its a good idea to try to socialise with people of all nationalities and, above all  with Spanish people.  Learning to speak Spanish to a decent level is also very important and shows respect for the native residents of the country you have chosen to make your home in.

I totally agree I've been learning Spanish on and off for years and have always managed to get by, since buying a villa I've really been studying and looking forward to taking lessons when we move over

Hi Sue

I have been here for 5 months now, single lady and have made many good friends. I only knew 1 person to start with we met on this forum before we came to Spain. There is a lovely couple Anne & Andy who run the Rose & Crown Pub in Mojacar and they have a website & WhatsApp group called New Faces. They meet once a week currently Wednesday's for lunch or just a drink and you get to meet new and old faces. I have met many new friends via this group also Anne will get people in to speak, who she thinks might be helpful with information you might need settling in here. I know some people will say I didn't come to Spain to drink in an English Pub but the help they provide through this group is great and when you settle you have plenty of time to immerse yourself into Spanish life. I have also volunteered at a charity shop a couple of days a week and you get to meet many people that way as well as helping good causes. (they only open 4 hours a day so not like work at all)

As to having second thoughts about doing the right thing I think we all have them, look at it as a new adventure. Remember you are not moving at the best of times, coming out of the EU and Covid have made the moves very challenging. What would have taken a couple of weeks in the past now takes a couple of months and some!! My residency is now in it's 12th week because of the back log but I'm here the sun is shining (but not today) and things will only get better.

Good luck with your move.

Lesley

My husband and I have just bought a villa in Mojacar something we have wanted to do for a long time we have sold our house and will be heading over in the summer.

Ive suddenly become really scared in case we don't find it easy to fit in how do you go about meeting and making friends. we have been visiting Mojacar for p 6or 7 yrs and have always found people really really chatty and friendly think I might just be overthinking things as it's a permanent move...

.... Would also love to know if anyone else felt the same before moving. Sue
