For anyone having problems with these rules, just remember why it is happening and don’t forget to thank all your friends that voted for Brexit. Still waiting for a plus side to leaving. As Matthew said, ‘it just keeps giving’. (NOT)

Whatever JTP890 (James) is or isn't, he is not an asshole. He contributes many good posts on this forum and like everybody else he makes a mistake or two along the way. We are all entitled to make mistakes. I hardly agree with a word he says, but from where I sit he is entitled to say what he likes.
We've had debates here about Brexit, the UK Government's take on Covid etc. But, the bottom line is Brexit happened and Covid will be defeated eventually in spite of the Tories. James argued extensively here for Brexit and the Tory government's attitude to Covid. Lots of metaphorical blood were spilt here by some of the posts, but James argued his points well and was prepared to listen to views abhorrent to him. Let's consider the following:- 1. If every Brit in Spain voted against Brexit, the Brit expats would not be in the disadvantaged way they're in at present. Many have left Spain because they were living under the radar for years and feared eventual deportation. Some are whinging that they now cannot swop their UK driving licences for a Spanish one. Some are trying to sell out in Spain and know they won't get the prices they are asking and worse again most cannot afford to buy decent property in the UK. 2. The Irish population in the UK largely voted for Brexit too. I don't know how much I spent on phone calls to the UK asking my relations and friends to vote against Brexit. But, Democracy has its limits and for dark reasons (my opinion) Brexit was carried.
Let's not blame the Tories; they were always going to support Brexit. But, when you are having your breakfast in Koi or an 'alf in some ailing alehouse along the Playa be aware that most of those surrounding you voted for Brexit thinking special cases would be made for Brits in Spain. In fact, they loaded the gun that is staring them straight in the face.
With Covid restricting hoops that must be jumped through in Spain and the UK many Brits cannot even visit their UK families for the past eighteen months. They've backed themselves into many corners and no matter which way they look they know they've lessened their own positions. Still, they refuse to believe this.
But, there may be a way for them. I've read about some kind of Celtic Protocol that could get Scotland back in the EU irrespective of where the rest of the UK stays. It's a long shot and perhaps even pie-in-the-sky, but somebody somewhere is still trying to improve the lot of Brits in Spain. Rest assured, it's not the Tories.
