We too were hoping to move to Spain late this year or early next depending if our house sells once property starts moving again. We will have pensions  but not €27000 pa pp! Not even close! If as you say that sort of income is required to take up residence from 1.1.21 then do we need to st...

My friends parents are currently going through TIE process from America, on a retirement Visa - I will endeavor to find out if there is a different financial burden for a retirement visa.

The process they are going through now is the same process immigrants from UK will undergo as of next year.

If you can get here before 31/12/20, then of course you’ll have a MUCH easier time of it moving here.

Thanks Dario for your reply. We have been looking at the government's website along with official Spanish ones. Please correct if wrong but we think! the following applies after 31 December for retirees -

A. The main income earner needs to prove they have a minimun pension of approximately €2100 per month and if married the spouse has around €600 pm income = €2700 pm (its actually slightly less).  If not married they both need to prove income of €2100 pm.

B. If they cannot officially prove via Tax statements the above, they then need to prove they have savings for one year of €33000 per married couple. At the end of year 1 they have to prove savings for Years 2 and 3 (€66000 approx) and the same again for years 4 and 5 before residence can be obtained.

C. Arriving after 31 December the reciprocal healthcare arrangements no longer apply. Private health policies have to be purchased and shown to the relevant authorities before you are granted permission to rent long term or buy. These are around €5400 pp pa with no health conditions. Much more with underlying health conditions.

If the above is correct then it is impossible for us to retire to Spain.

That looks about correct, unfortunately - with Brexit, only the very wealthy will be able to retire here.

I saw UK announced that reciprocal health care was being scrapped post transition.

Many many thanks for pulling that together as well - I shall save it and dig in and check figures.  I’m waiting on friend to come back to me on how her parents are doing

The wealthy wont have a problem meeting the criteria but for the rest of us it's put a place in the sun out of reach after Brexit. Even if we set aside savings after selling our house the cost of Private healthcare would use it up.

It’s just typical wealthy people can get what they want and other people can’t 😂😂
