Hi everyone, new to the forum but have been following posts for several weeks and have learnt a lot to date. My wife and I had a holiday planned to Mojacar this September but have had to postpone until next June as we run a business and have just re opened and need to make some money. We wish to retire to Almeria in a couple of years time once Brexit is finalised and the dust has settled and hence classed as a third country immigrant( renting first for as advised by many to test the viability) with several visits on holidays. My question is our dream achievable, I am 57 with a Govt. Pension my wife 44 we do not intend to work but will not be entitled to state pensions for several/20+ years. We could afford to live on my pension income but would we have to pay into the Spanish state pension system until we qualify for pension. As I understand it once a full time Spanish resident all taxes etc are paid in Spain, we would buy healthcare policies, just confused about pension entitlements in years to come. Many thanks.

Here’s a post I saved prepared by another forum member, but that I think answers most of your questions:-

So, with thanks to Dave777:-

A. The main income earner needs to prove they have a minimun pension of approximately €2100 per month and if married the spouse has around €600 pm income = €2700 pm (its actually slightly less).  If not married they both need to prove income of €2100 pm.

B. If they cannot officially prove via Tax statements the above, they then need to prove they have savings for one year of €33000 per married couple. At the end of year 1 they have to prove savings for Years 2 and 3 (€66000 approx) and the same again for years 4 and 5 before residence can be obtained.

C. Arriving after 31 December the reciprocal healthcare arrangements no longer apply. Private health policies have to be purchased and shown to the relevant authorities before you are granted permission to rent long term or buy. These are around €5400 pp pa with no health conditions. Much more with underlying health conditions.

Dario, thanks for the update, it's the info I was looking for.
