1. I am not in Mojacar at the moment. Normally, we'd be into our 3rd month of summer at this stage (11th August). We didn't travel because (i) We might inadvertently bring Covid-19 to Mojacar (ii) We might get infected by Covid-19 in Mojacar (iii) We could get infected along the way especially in departure and arrival airport, not to mention on public transport.

2. I understand several beach bars have closed now (some precautionary others because of infections). Furthermore, I hear that a Covid-19 Test Centre has opened at the old football field on the Playa. I'm aware that wearing of face masks is mandatory even outdoors.

3. The facebook equivalent of this forum is supplying differing opinions on (a) the amount of Covid-19 infections (b) Responsible and Irresponsible behaviour of some people in bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc (c) I can't trust the local newspapers in Mojacar.

4. What is the true situation regarding Covid-19 (and fear of Covid-19) in Mojacar Playa and the nearby towns at the moment? Does anybody know the number of infections? How many are hospitalised? Did anybody die of the recent outbreak? How serious is the situation? Is my concern over-loaded? Has tourism almost died in Mojacar? Is tourism flourishing in Mojacar? Are people taking the Covid-19 situation seriously? Is Mojacar 100%, 90%, 80%, 50%, 5% safe from Covid-19? What is the regional "R" (Covid-19 Reproduction figure)?

5. The rumour machine is working overtime. Can anybody supply the truth?

On the Spanish news this morning Matthew it said Andulucia had 6 new cases overnight with a total of 108 active cases.

Here in Pupli ( taking in San Juan de los Terreros ) we have 26 cases which are under control, those are the words of the ayuntamiento, not mine.

Thanks for the update Jack. I had planned to visit Mojacar for the month of September. I'm now aiming at most of October or November or some bit in between.

Can you say anything about the general feeling around the area? One of my Spanish neighbours tells me Mojacar is rampant with the virus and another says there's nothing to fear.

Here in Ireland the R figure has dramatically jumped from 0.5 to 1.80 (even 0.7 was deemed unacceptable a month ago here). We've had outbreaks of Covid-19 in some meat factories and the infection rate has jumped from zero or low single numbers to 180 daily (worst figure). We're informed it will take until next Tuesday/Wednesday for more accurate information. The Covid-19 death rate is running between mainly zero and low single figures daily, but depending on several matters these could change. Movements of people in three counties have been curtailed too.
