We've just swapped from Wimax online to Aplinfo because as you'll find, internet providers will say "up to", which is about as vague as anyone can get.

Partner has become very dissolusioned with Wimax especially over the last 3 months or so whereby download speeds have rarely exceeded 15 and upload speeds rarely gone over .9 this in spite of her paying for 30 mbs !! Suffering buffering, blocking, loss of picture etc....

...

A recent 5 hour phone call had all kinds of "leave it with me and I'll get back with you promises" which in the main never happened, various people sharing partners service picture and assuring her that where they were there were no problems at all lol.

The first responder gives good if expensive advice, as I'm sure you'll get others, check out if you can get a minimum monthly contract vs a fixed 12 or even 18 month contract, check out if possible neighbours and friends as to who theyre with and what they pay for what they get and most of all how reliable the set up is.

Finally cancel your BBC payments, you can get tons of programming here with IPTV boxes, mag boxes, even Amazon firestick, sky sports everything once youve bought whichever box app or add-on, theres nowt to pay on top.

Hi, many thanks for taking the trouble to give me the benefit of your experience, but unfortunately I had received a recommendation for Wimax and signed up with them a couple of weeks ago or so, yes I am having buffering and other issues so it is a bit of a learning curve.  However, we are supposed to be getting fibre optic so I will put up with less than best service until I can sign up to that possibly next year.  Again thanks for your help, Polly

Hi, ok about Wimax, sorry your not getting the service you hoped for.

Fibre optic wont get out our way, Urcal as its a bit too urban and small for the fibre optic compsnies to get worked up about.

We've seen reference to it but guessing it'll only go to the larger towns like SJDLT and Mojacar and possibly any close by villages.

Best of luck with service till then, hope your enjoying life in the sun away from the snow, it'll only get warmer lol

Please can anyone advise me whether it would be useful to keep on paying my UK TV licence once I move to Mojacar (I can use my kids' address in UK) - would I need it to be able to watch BBC programmes etc? Also I have a Talk Talk box and can't think of any use for it in Spain but please tell me i...

...f there is before I skip it!

Also any recommendations of TV /broadband providers/installers in the area would be really appreciated. Many thanks, Polly S

We use  NEXT in Turre,  office staff English , excellent service and we get all the BBC etc about 25 euros to 30 a month.  We are on a vacation package so only charged when we are here.  Hope it helps

Thanks yes, I am in Mojacar and we are promised fibre optic, just don't know when... There are many compensations for poor TV service occasionally as you say, glad I left Wales before the worst of the weather hit, and who wants to sit indoors in front of a screen anyway when the sun is out - did that for 40 years after all.  Thanks for your best wishes, Polly

We use Rednet, but we live inland and I don't know if they extend down to the coast. We get our signal via microwave, they came to install a small dish on our chimney stack. We pay 36€ a month for 50mps unlimited. usually we get speeds of between 30 and 40 download and they're pretty steady at 5 upload. Rednet is generally pretty responsive if/when we get technical problems, which might as often as not be down to blips in the electricity..
