ATM’s

I think the days of free atm withdrawals for tourists are long gone. If I can remember rightly, I got a free withdrawl in Santander Bank near Parque Commercial about 3 years ago. I don't know if they charge now. Plastic speaks but leaves no tip.

Thanks again Matthew. I’m a bit old fashioned I like a bit of cash on me. As you say also useful for tips. Will try a few to see which rates are best. It is a Euro account that I have so was a bit surprised by the charge. 

I would have brought it with me personally ,failing that use it once! And draw enough out for roughly your 3mth stay,then u don't have to get charged every time.

ATMs are as rare as rocking horse poo in this area and €2-60 for a withdrawal is cheap.

We load a Caxton card (there are others) with Euros at the best available exchange rate before leaving for Mojacar, so as not to have to carry too much cash. Then we draw as much as is required for immediate use from the ATM at Unicaja between the pharmacy and the Parador.  The card is treated as a Savings Account, which you must select, to obtain cash at face value without charges.  Not absolutely sure, but if I remember correctly, I think CaixaBank was similarly free of charges.  Santander and Sabotel ATMs deducted a usage fee, so we avoid them now.
