Why blame Revolut when it was Sabadell that charged the €18 - Sabadell should be the target of your ire. You would have been far better spending the €17 you had in the Revolut account on teas/coffees and snacks or at a bar

You're quite right, it was Sabadell that made the the charge and if I'd have known I wouldn't have done it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

We discovered that if we opened an additional deposit account (with a couple of thousand Euros) we didn’t have to pay any charges for our main (current) account with Cajamar, so we haven’t paid any for a couple of years. It’s worth trying to find out if there is anything like that with your...

... bank.
I don’t know about opening a new account since Brexit, but they will be able to tell you. As long as you have the NIE I think It’s OK - we are UK based and we just have to show our updated NIE periodically

Good luck!

Sorry,  what’s an Updated N.I.E. ?   We are also U.K. based but i’ve never heard of that. We have had to show our P60s before but last time we were in Cajamar the woman there said we wouldn’t have to do that anymore!

Unless you are resident and have a TIE, then the A4 paper with an NIE on it is only valid for 3 months.  The number itself is for life, but for official purposes the validity of the certificate is limited to 3 months.

Sabadell told me recently that Bank of Spain have updated their rules for Foreign Accounts - i.e. non-Citizen.  Even if you are a resident, but a UK citizen you have to supply National Insurance Number.  Our business account was frozen because our business partner, although a French Citizen and a Spanish Resident, was born in the USA.  The bank required their Social Security number, which of course they were unwilling to supply as there are tax implications with US Revenue service chasing Social Security numbers that pop up worldwide for back tax.  So the bank froze the account and our only recourse was to have them removed from the account.

I knew that the three month thing was the Padron but never heard of that for the NIE. So, how do we get a fresh paper with the NIE on it then?  If we were ever asked for our NIE They would just write down what we told them. Couldn’t ever have done anything where it was official whereby we were asked for it as renewed.  So, i’m assuming if we sell our house we would need a fresh one at that point.  ?

Probably, yes.  Trouble is it doesn't seem to be standardised - whether you are requested for an updated NIE will vary from organisation to organisation and indeed from individual to individual in the same organisation.  Spain!

We’ve had ours since 2002 and never had to update it.

I believe you’d have to contact Extranjería in Almeria; you’d need a reason to update though, such as purchase or needed for sale and as per my previous post there’s every chance the funcionario you spoke to on the day would say it’s not necessary!

lol. I think Spains functionality is where the saying, every rule is there to be broken comes from.
