You are very correct Juanida, we live in Valle del Este, where many of the apartments are holiday homes for Madrileños; they are slowly starting to fill as the Madrileños come here, determined not to lose out on their holiday(s) and seemingly uncaring if they bring the virus with them 🤦‍...

Yes Dario, I can quite imagine.

I had to do my weekly shop at Lidl today and thought to myself that I'd go to Campohermoso as normally there are less tourists there  than Vera or Garrucha (for obvious reasons).  Well, I was horrified at the quantity of cars in the car park.  I have never seen Lidl there like that and The Maxi Día on the opposite side of the road was the same.  Goodness knows what the Mercadona further towards San Isidro was like!  The store was packed with people buying at least two of everything.   Meat seemed as if it was getting low and this was only at 11 am. The only loo rolls left were pink ones and in packs of 12 and they were disappearing fast!   All these people were not locals, they must have be staying in the rural accomodation in the Cabo de Gata Park.  It's absolutely crazy as there should be no shortage of food but rationing will have to start if this goes on apart from which many people will bring the virus with them from the cities.

Mercadona Vera (and Lidl) stripped bare of bottled water, toilet roll, meat, bread, eggs at 2:00 pm this afternoon.

I heard an awful lot of English accents in both shops, and sadly it seemed to be mainly those pushing trolleys laden with goods.  Not just that, but at Icelands Vera, a staff member told me people were FIGHTING each other to get the things they wanted. Animales.

.... if anyone reading this is a “prepper” (those morons who think they are preparing by stockpiling goods) or knows someone that is, I have a message :-

You are not “prepared”, you are not “clever” in the slightest; by taking everything for yourself and leaving nothing for those that perhaps cannot spend as much, or get to the shops easily, the aged, the infirm, you are showing your true colours - that of an arrogant, ignorant, boorish, selfish and greedy cretin.  I hope all your toilet paper turns to sandpaper!!

It's not like that 'yet' in the UK.  Thank goodness.  Like the sandpaper idea!!

The Spanish President, Pedro Sanchez, has just announced a "State of Alarm".  There will be a cabinet meeting tomorrow, following which the measures to be taken will be announced.  Beings Communidad de Valencia has had ALL public bars and Restaurants closed from tonight, and Región de Murcia is already on lockdown, with strict quarantine allowing you to go outside the house only to shop at the supermarket or visit the pharmacy, and with Police patrolling the streets, I think we can expect as from tomorrow similar measures not just here in Andalucia, but indeed Spain-wide.

It was recently, in Rochester Kent. A relative is a train driver there and all the loo rolls were stolen from the train and some services therefore were cancelled. Other reports are that Tesco have had to place a staff member on toilet duty to stop customers walking out with loo rolls. So it’s not just a Spanish obsession with preparing for Armageddon with a supply of toilet essentials.

On the Spanish news a week ago, they showed people in a supermarket in Australia fighting over loo rolls in a supermarket.  Crazy!  Maybe that's what got people obsessed about stiocking up.  The human race behaves just like a very stupid  flock of sheep.

Yeah!  Old telephone directories and catalogues hanging on a hook!  It's a bit daft since I don't think this disease gives you diarrhea .  If the worst happens and we are (ahem...) caught short,  one will have to use a handful.of esparto (ouch!) or a stone like the Spanish here used to do when caught short in the campo!

Plenty of kitchen rolls available. Just cut them in half and voila 2 bog rolls, simples.
