New post..As many of you know we've had some pretty extreme heat in the UK. I actually thought I was back in West Africa again!

Which brings me to a possible change of plan regarding a different location in Spain.

I was pretty much set on Almeria/La Mata. I would imagine the winters there are pretty comfortable, however, I know summers can be hot, hot!

Any recommendations on areas that are not too stifling during summer/coastal/good public transport etc?

Many thanks 🙂

That's the UK, however, I wasn't asking about the UK

You may want to reconsider as Almeria has the only European desert.  Inland is hotter than the coast.  Most places have limited public transport.

Hi. We moved to Garrucha over 4 years ago. I actually don’t like extreme heat, and find August here uncomfortable. We only have ceiling fans in our apartment, no air con. However, for the relatively short period of time it’s extremely hot, we manage ok. Any shopping is done early morning and we walk both early morning and late evening for exercise. We are 2 minutes walk from the beach, and 5/10 minutes walk from the mountains. We are lucky to get a lovely breeze off the mountains into our apartment. As a comparison, I visit Los Gallardos occasionally to see an orthodontist, and I feel the heat there is oppressive. It seems so much hotter just that few miles inland. This is just my opinion. We love Garrucha and wouldn’t want to move elsewhere. It has supermarkets, medical centre, dentists etc but is a small working town which doesn’t close up in winter. Feel free to send a private message if you want more details. Good luck. 😊

We've been in Spain for 17 years and the summers seem to get hotter earlier than before.

Electricity is much more expensive and if you need to have aircon on for months, it's something to consider.

Personally if you don't like really hot weather I would look further north.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, I have been researching further North. There seems to be some pretty nice coastal areas.

Have to agree with this comment but they are also getting more humid. July & August are months you have to suffer especially on the coast to enjoy the weather in Autumn and Winter. As I sit here the (Mojacar Playa) outside temperature is 30.4 degrees centigrade and 73 % humidity making the real feel temperature almost 37 degrees.

Before moving to Spain we lived in Australia and used to go to Bali a lot and we say each year summers in Spain are just like being in Bali. Whatever you do do not move to the Costa Blanca as that is where we live and the humidity is even worse there than being in Mojacar Playa.
