Hi Gary,
We were also planning to buy a second hand car, but have given up for the moment.
We learned a few important things we learned, though:
The Spanish seem to buy a new car and then keep it for ever!
Obviously the best way to buy a used car would be to buy a car from someone who has decided to return to the UK - possibly you will be luckier than we were, as maybe some people will go back because of Brexit.
The restrictions in London on diesel cars seem very similar to those in Spain, so think twice before buying a diesel car, and check on the rules in Spain - you might be all right at the moment, but not able to take the car to cities, and the same applies to older cars.
The other important thing is that the mileage (or kilometrage!!) seems really huge - it's quite normal in Spain to be selling a car with 100,000 - 200,000 kilometres on the clock, whereas in the UK we might not look at a car with such a lot of miles on the clock.
There are second hand dealers, which we found on the internet, however, these seemed very expensive. We saw a couple of cars with signs in the windscreen, but we didn't really feel confident to follow them up - I wouldn't have the Spanish to ask, for example, when they had a new clutch!
In the end we decided to wait to buy a car, and when we buy one we think we will buy a new one - the cheapest we can get away with! Obviously if you need space for a wheelchair, so you need a bigger boot, but it's probably worth checking the prices of new ones at the same time you are looking for old ones.
Best of luck - and hopefully other people will correct anything I've written that's not accurate - or tell you if they want to sell a car!
Katy
